Devon businesses gathered at a special event at Powderham Castle this week to show their support for the Devon Delivers Ambassadors’ programme.

The initiative is run by Devon County Council to promote Devon as a location where businesses thrive, and to encourage others to relocate to the county. 180 guests joined Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) for their Enchanted Ball at Exeter Castle. The event was sponsored by Equinix and Brewin Dolphin and hosted by celebrity gardener Toby Buckland.

Over £25,000 was raised at the event. This could pay for ELF’s counsellor for a whole year meaning that 300 families can get the advice and support they need during some of the most difficult times of their lives.

Exeter businesses are celebrating double success in the National Santander Entrepreneurship Awards, after local businesses Bird Sunglasses and sustainable clothing company Sancho's Dress beat over 2000 entries to each come 2nd in the pre and post revenue categories respectively. Councillors back latest bus station proposals

Coucillors in Exeter have highlighted plans to progress the long-awaited redevelopment of the city’s bus station site.

At an Extraordinary Meeting at the Guildhall on Thursday night (12 October), they backed a recommendation to close the existing bus station by the end of February 2018 at the latest.

Passengers will be dropped off and picked up on street during the closure, which will allow for a new bus station and major new leisure complex to be built.

The City Council plans to re-tender for a contractor to build these projects, which it is funding, next spring....

Summer rain leads to bumper apple crop for cider making

Orchards on the Killerton estate are bursting with apples this autumn and the National Trust rangers and volunteers have been busy harvesting them in time for their annual cider and apple festival on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 October.

The frost in May caused concern that the orchards might be bare this autumn but the summer rain has meant the orchards are full of apples, including some varieties like the Killerton Sweet, Killerton Sharp and Star of Devon which are unique to this small area.

Local company, PSSW Conveyancing Solutions Ltd, have announced the winner of their inaugural competition to win two Granstand seats at the Exeter Chiefs fixture this Saturday.

Daisy Otton, who works in the conveyancing department at Morgan & Pope solicitors was the grateful recipent after being drawn from a hat as a way of PSSW thanking their local and growing customer base.

Chilcotts is celebrating one of the most successful sales ever with its most recent Fine Art & Antiques Medals & Militaria auction.

An impressive 89 per cent of the lots were sold and the sale total was 12 per cent higher than the top pre-auction expectations.

Auctioneer, Duncan Chilcott said: “The sale was particularly fruitful as there were fewer lots than usual but each having a higher value.
