TOP honours at the 36th Exeter and District Primestock Christmas Show, held at Exeter Livestock Market, went to home-bred British Blue cross heifer “Saucy Clover”, shown by Paul and Lin Calcraft from Payhembury, Honiton.

It was the fifth time the couple had claimed the supreme championship at the show in seven years.

Saucy Clover, by well-known sire Drift Domini, was born on January 4, 2016 and weighed in at 658 kilos. The heifer went on to top the sale at £2,632 (400ppk), purchased by Darts Farm Master Butchers at Topsham.

South West exports grow

Fresh on the back of the Government's Industrial Strategy and the PM brokering a last minute Brexit ‘Breakthrough' deal, the latest import/export figures have been published by HM Revenue and Customs. A world-renowned violinist and a former head of the UK Supreme Court will receive honorary degrees from the University of Exeter on Saturday (16 December).

Travis Perkins plc has purchased a key development site in the middle of Exeter's biggest commercial estate, representing the city's largest industrial property deal of the year.

Spending boost planned for adult social care, children and health in Devon

More money will be spent on adult social care, health and children’s services next year if Devon County Council’s target budget is agreed in February.

The council’s powerful Cabinet approved the target budget for 2018/19 today, (Wednesday).

It will have to be ratified at the Budget meeting in February.

The target budget calls for an extra £13 million to be spent on adult care and health. That’s a rise of over 6 per cent and would take the total care budget to £227.8 million.
