Local small businesses across the South West are gearing up to take their share of a much-needed Christmas boost, as new data predicts the UK could spend £5.3 billion with small firms over the festive period, delivering critical end-of-year gains for this vital segment of the economy.

Contract to refurbish Market Walk shopping centre in Newton Abbot awarded to Exeter based firm

The contract to refurbish Newton Abbot’s Market Walk shopping centre has been awarded to South West construction company Classic Builders, who have offices in Exeter, by Teignbridge District Council.

The shopping centre, which was acquired by the council in 2016 in a record deal, will be transformed to offer a ‘brighter and lighter’ shopping experience which the council hope will, ‘attract locals and visitors to the heart of the town.’

Man loses finger after assault at Devon railway station

A man had to have his finger amputated after an assault at Teignmouth railway station in Devon.

British Transport Police would like to speak to the men shown in the CCTV images in connection with the incident.

The offence happened on Saturday 23 December 2017 at around 10.45pm.

The victim, a 45-year-old man, was assaulted by a group of people in the station car park. He remembers regaining consciousness in the car park.

Public consultation on Exeter's Air Quality Action Plan underway

Consultation on draft measures in the plan to improve air quality and cut traffic congestion in the city will last for three months.

Residents, commuters and visitors are being urged to complete an online survey on the council's website.

Some people may also be asked to take part in representative, face-to-face surveys, and a number of focus groups will also be set up.

A major public consultation event will take place at Exeter's Guildhall on Tuesday, March 13, from 8am to 8pm.
