East Devon District Council (EDDC) is launching StartSmart , a new business support programme designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs and startup businesses across East Devon build strong, sustainable foundations from day one.

The programme will officially launch with a free startup event on Tuesday 17 March, 10am–2pm, at the East Devon Business Centre, Honiton (EX14 1SF). The event is aimed at anyone looking to start a business in East Devon, as well as those who have launched a business within the last three years.

The Environment Agency’s work to protect 3,200 homes and businesses in Exeter reaches an important milestone this week. Work on Station road is due to complete on time and the road will re-open on 8th June as planned. Lottery boost for adventure centre plans

Ambitious plans to build a state-of-the-art scout hut and adventure centre in Topsham have received a boost this week.

The group behind the project to create the half a million pound Topsham Adventure Centre has been awarded a grant of £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund, bringing their fundraising total to date to more than £100,000.

A multimillion pound bid to revolutionise digital technology education across the South West has reached the final phase of competition.

Members of a volunteer search and rescue team have been handed £1,000 to help fund vital kit for their state of the art stretcher.

Queen’s Drive in Exmouth including associated facilities for water sports users such as a café, restaurant and retail spaces as well as associated car parking.

Members of East Devon District Council’s Development Management Committee have voted in favour of granting planning permission for the construction of a new water sports centre and facilities for water sports users such as a café, restaurant, retail spaces and car parking at Queen’s Drive in Exmouth.

County Council unwraps new strategy to reduce plastic waste

Devon County Council has pledged to phase out its use of the most polluting single-use plastic products within two years.

The move is part of a new action plan the Council has developed to help cut the amount of single-use plastic waste in Devon.

The ‘Plastics Strategy’ outlines how various single-use plastic food and beverage packaging and tableware (such as cutlery and cups) will be removed from Council work locations by 2020.

Teignbridge has a new campaign to help curb fly-tipping and is telling people to ‘check who you pay to take it away’.

Paying someone can seem like the easiest and quickest way to get rid of rubbish, but if you’re not checking out the legitimacy of who takes it away, there’s a big chance it’ll be fly-tipped, and you’re the one who could be fined.

A planning application for a new water sports centre on Exmouth seafront will be considered by East Devon District Council’s Development Management Committee next month.

The application from Grenadier Exmouth Ltd to build the centre and associated facilities off Queen’s Drive, will go before the committee on Tuesday 5 June.
