Back-to-back careers fairs are being launched to give young people across the South West of England the chance to talk with employers and get vital careers advice at a critical time.

Developed by South West based polar explorer Anthony Jinman and running through the Liketobe.org​ career platform he founded, the 10-3pm careers fairs on Monday June 22 and Tuesday June 23 will give 15-25 year olds the chance to talk directly with companies and help prepare them for work in a post-lockdown world.

Discretionary grant fund launches in East Devon

A new Government Discretionary Grant aimed at supporting small businesses and charities in East Devon launches today, 10th June.

Online applications will be open for two weeks, from 10th June to 24th June at www.eastdevon.gov.uk/discretionary-business-grant . This follows previous schemes which supported businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors as well as small businesses more generally and has seen over £40m being deployed to over 3,000 businesses in the District. Pubs and restaurants may have to ask customers to prepay for their meals if they are going to survive under social distancing measures, argues Phil Mills, head of food and drink at financial experts Old Mill.

Plans underway for next week’s city centre reopening

Preparations are well underway to help ensure Exeter city centre is safe and welcoming when many stores reopen their doors next week.

On Monday 15 June non-essential retailers will be allowed to reopen for the first time since the end of March, once they have completed a risk assessment. Hospitality businesses like cafes and restaurants can reopen from 4 July.

A leading Devon law firm has jumped up the rankings for the Top 100 Trade Mark Filers of 2018-2019 to become the highest ranking firm headquartered in Devon and Cornwall on the list.

Stephens Scown LLP’s intellectual property (IP) team has risen to 64th in the top 100 UK trade mark filers with over 120 trade marks filed last year, and 58th in the top 100 EU trade mark filers with over 100 EU trade marks in the EU last year. Loganair set to fly from Exeter for first time

Loganair today announced that it will fly from Exeter Airport for the first time from the start of July.

Included are routes from Exeter to Edinburgh commencing on July 6, and to Newcastle starting on July 20. A one-stop service to Aberdeen via Newcastle also starts on that date.

The Edinburgh service flies five times per week, and Newcastle and Aberdeen daily on weekdays. The services to Scotland will also allow connectivity on one ticket the length of the British Isles from the far south west of England to the Scottish islands. Seatc are now on sale.
