Used car dealer found guilty of selling 'dangerous' vehicle

A used car dealer from Teignmouth has been found guilty of supplying a dangerous and unroadworthy vehicle with faulty brakes.

Jamie Stuart Rabin, 36, of Bank Street, Teignmouth, was ordered to pay a total of £6,594.25 in fines, costs, victim’s surcharge and compensation at Plymouth Magistrates Court on Thursday 8 June.

Rabin, who changed his plea at the last minute, sold the Renault Trafic Van in 2016 from his dealership, Finnish Car Sales, in Dawlish.

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, has launched its fifth economic well-being survey.

The survey, in partnership with the Express and Echo, Radio Exe, Exeter City Council and Exeter Chamber of Commerce, will highlight the current financial and employment situation in Exeter. It will help Citizens Advice Exeter to highlight trends with policy-makers and to further tailor their advice and information resources to meet the needs of local people.

WALKERS of Eden Project’s Great Big Walk started their day’s journey at Addaction RISE in Exeter, sharing breakfast with volunteers, clients and staff at the drug and alcohol charity to hear how it supports the community.

The Great Big Walk started at Batley, where Jo Cox was MP, and five different teams headed off on a 21 day journey to Cornwall, London, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. £30m to help older people regain their independence

Devon County Council’s (DCC) cabinet has supported a £15.15million increase in adult social care funding for 2017/2018 to help older people regain their independence following NHS treatment.

The money was announced in the spring 2017 Budget as part of a national directive. In total £30.34million will be provided over three years through the Better Care Fund.

The £15.15milion for the first year was agreed in principle at DCC’s Cabinet Meeting on Wednesday 14 June.

Plans for new £5.7m junction near Tiverton approved

Devon County Council’s Cabinet has agreed plans to build a new £5.7 million junction off the A361 near Tiverton.

Approval of the Tiverton Eastern Urban Extension access junction by councillors means that work is now expected to start on phase one of the scheme in September. However, concern was raised at the meeting that the Local Transport Board has so far only agreed to provide £250,000 of funding, rather than £1.5 million that was expected.

Local renewables company, Beco, have recently been commended for their work at the Energy Efficiency and Healthy Homes Awards 2017.
