Exeter-based employment lawyer joins Westbank Community Health and Care’s Board of Trustees

The Devon-wide health and wellbeing charity, Westbank Community Health and Care, is delighted to welcome lawyer Henry Cross as its newest Trustee. Henry is a Senior Associate at Michelmores, specialising in employment law.

A father-of-two from Exeter, Henry already had a broad awareness of the charity when he met Westbank’s Head of Carers Services, Andy Hood, at a networking event a few years ago. When he subsequently learnt that Westbank was looking for a law-oriented Trustee to join its Board, he was quick to express his interest in the role.

Barratt Homes reinforces position as the UK’s most recommended housebuilder

Local housebuilder Barratt Homes has received the maximum 5 star rating in the new Home Builders Federation (HBF) annual New Homes Survey.

The number of stars awarded is based on responses to the question “would you recommend your builder to a friend?” For Barratt to have been awarded 5 stars means that more than 90% of its customers would recommend their homes to a friend.

Barratt is currently the only major national housebuilder to be rated as 5 star for nine years in a row, having first been awarded the accolade back in 2010.

YMCA Exeter join Exeter City Council in pilot work experience programme

Six young residents from YMCA Exeter were invited to spend a time a day at the Civic Centre to pilot a new programme which aims to introduce homeless people into employment at the Council.

The Christian youth charity, who have existed in Exeter since 1846, provide services in Supported Accommodation, Training and Employment, and Health and Wellbeing.

Local foodservice provider raises over £1,800 for Devon charity

Last month, Bidfood’s depot in Devon donated £1,820.33 to the local charity Call South West, to help them support children and adults with communication difficulties.

The Devon depot has supported Call South West for the last two years, so far donating over £4,500 from a variety of fundraising activities. PSP firm's washable mattress made from recycled bottles

Mattresses are a huge environmental problem which might be about to be solved thanks to a brainwave by Squirrel Medical, a company based at the internationally renowned Plymouth Science Park.

Currently, the UK sees some 169,000 mattresses dumped into landfill.

Hygiene concerns mean many of the parts mean cannot be recycled. It’s a global issue with industry experts saying America saw more than 20 million mattresses thrown away last year alone.
