New data shows Amazon’s £150 million commitment to Devon

New figures released today show that Amazon has invested £150 million in Devon since 2010. The figures, taken from the latest Amazon Economic Impact Report, document Amazon’s investment in the South West and across the UK over the last 15 years.

The 2025 Amazon UK Economic Impact Hub features comprehensive data covering employment opportunities Amazon has generated across the region and the scope of economic activity driven by its investments including apprenticeship programmes and upskilling Amazon employees.

Exeter Science Park has further strengthened its management team with new appointments and promotions.

The appointments have been made across a number of areas of the organisation.

Matt Roach has joined Exeter Science Park as Head of Operations. Chartered accountant, Matt, who was formerly managing director of Exeter Airport for nine years, will be a key member of the science park’s leadership team. Small businesses in Devon will be able to benefit from a new “one stop shop” to help them implement energy saving measures – cutting carbon emissions and costs.

Serco wins £200m follow-on contract to provide marine services for the Royal Navy

Serco has been awarded a contract by the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to continue to provide marine services for the Royal Navy. Following the end of the 15-year private finance initiative (PFI) arrangements for the provision of marine services, the new agreement is with the Royal Navy directly. The contract, which is valued at around £200m, will last for 27 months commencing in December 2022 and follows on directly from the current PFI, ensuring continuity of support. The MOD has an option to extend the contract for up to six months.

The Heart of the South West LEP is urgently reminding SMEs across Devon and Somerset to apply for funding by the end of December to help boost their growth in international markets.

The Department for International Trade’s Internationalisation Fund, supported by the European Regional Development Fund, provides match funding between £1,000 and £9,000 to help SMEs grow their products or services internationally. The last chance to apply for the fund is the end of December, 2022.
