Citizens Advice Exeter's Big Energy Saving Week

FREE, impartial advice sessions which could help Exeter residents save more than £300 on their energy bills, are taking place this week.

The events are being run by Citizens Advice Exeter as part of the charity’s national Big Energy Saving Week and they are being supported by Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw.

Fire Service thanks residents and business owners

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service have thanked residents and business owners of Exeter for their support during the major incident in the city centre.

Since the fire on Cathedral Yard started in the early hours of Friday morning, roads have been closed, cordons put in place and businesses closed to protect public safety.

Despite the inconvenience, the Service has been overwhelmed by messages of support, offers of assistance and complimentary food and drink to help sustain the large number of firefighters who have been working around the clock to bring the fire...

We all know how much and how many depend on The Royal British Legion and a successful Poppy Day Appeal. The need for help is still as great as ever and we need to show our support for all members of the Armed Forces, retired members and their families.

Road users urged to brighten up

Devon County Council is urging pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders to make sure they are visible during the dark winter nights by wearing reflective and fluorescent clothing.

Drivers are also being asked to use their headlights and take extra care and look out for all other road users as the winter nights draw in, especially when visibility is limited due to mist, rain and fog.

Charity golf day raises over £5,000 for SW MS Centre

More than £5,000 was raised at a charity golf day held in aid of the South West Multiple Sclerosis Centre.

The event, organised and sponsored by Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants and Thomas Westcott Business Recovery, saw teams of the firm's clients and professional contacts battle it out at Teignmouth Golf Club.

In all £5,365 was raised through a combination of entry fees, fun golf-themed events, raffles and an auction.

As in previous years all the money was donated to the South West MS Centre in Clyst Heath, Exeter.

Emergency crews have spent a fourth day trying to extinguish the devastating blaze that tore through the Royal Clarence Hotel on Exeter's Cathedral Green.

Firefighters are still on the scene tackling hotspots in the historic building.

The police cordon around the Cathedral Green site was relaxed earlier today (MONDAY), allowing more businesses to open.

Pedestrians can now access the whole of Gandy Street and a new section of the lower end of the High Street.

North Street and South Street have reopened, but all other cordons remain in place.

Demolition engineers assessing Royal Clarence damage

Emergency crews remained at the scene of the blaze in buildings on Cathedral Green today.

The historic Royal Clarence Hotel has been destroyed by the fire that started in an adjacent art gallery in the early hours of Friday morning.

Specialist demolition engineers are currently assessing the damage.

Devon and Cornwall Police has asked the public to appreciate the scale and severity of the fire which has affected buildings on Exeter’s Cathedral Green and to carefully consider their travel plans by car or public transport to Exeter’s city centre.
