The Alzheimer’s Society is encouraging local people in Exeter to unite against dementia and become a Dementia Friends Champion this month. People can book now to attend a touring induction day that is coming to Exeter on Wednesday 28 June 2017.

The day-long session is part of Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme, which is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation acts, thinks and talks about the condition.

A trip to Newton Abbot’s markets turned into a winning surprise for one local shopper as Teignbridge District Council teamed up with local market traders.

Mrs Ruth Beadle from Newton Abbot was randomly drawn from over 100 entrants as the winner of a £100 trolley dash prize to spend within the markets. Forming part of the national Love Your Local Market 2017 campaign, the popular annual event on the market calendar saw market shoppers completing an entry form for a chance to win the fantastic prize.

A stamp collection dating back to 1979 has been donated to the South West Police Heritage Trust.

Following the 150th anniversary in 1979 of the formation of the Metropolitan Police, the Post Office issued a set of four stamps to the Force to celebrate their anniversary. This was followed by Devon and Cornwall Constabulary producing their own commemorative handstamp for use on the same day.

Exeter projects celebrate £38,000 in new grants from BBC Children in Need

BBC Children in Need has awarded a total of £38,795 in new funding to two local groups working with disadvantaged children and young people in Exeter.

This is the third time that BBC Children in Need has awarded new funding to projects across the UK this year, with further funding to be allocated throughout 2017.

This latest boost of funding, from the charity’s Small Grants programme, brings the total currently invested in the area to more than £230,000.

‘Fatal five’ traffic offences targeted in South Devon

On day one (Wednesday 14 June 2017) of Operation Allied Wolf, Alliance Roads Policing officers carried out enforcement on the South Devon Highway (A380 bypass).
