Exeter announces its bid to become the UK’s City of Culture in 2029 

Exeter City Council has today announced it will be submitting an expression of interest (EOI) for the prestigious UK City of Culture title. 

The City of Culture bid follows the culmination of five months extensive engagement and consultation with artists, creatives, cultural organisations and residents to shape the council’s commissioned new five-year Cultural Strategy for Exeter.

Exeter builders merchants’ Support Local campaign continues

RGB Building Supplies’ campaign to support businesses in the local area is continuing to give the community a chance to receive vouchers to spend at independent shops and venues.

The builders merchant has so far given away vouchers totalling £1,390 with The New Inn and Oinkers having been supported in the local area. It is still doing weekly giveaways, which include 10 £50 garden centre vouchers, five £100 holiday cottage vouchers and five £100 spa/hotel vouchers. The South West team at BGF, the UK and Ireland’s most active investor in growing businesses, has invested a total of £67m into companies in 2020, despite the challenges of the pandemic.

The final auction of 2020 was an overwhelming success for Chilcotts Auctioneers with enough lots for a jam-packed two day sale.

Outstanding sales included the medals of female WW2 pilot Joan Hughes which went for the unexpectedly high figure of £5,800. Auctioneer Duncan Chilcott said: “We were delighted with the amount of interest around Joan’s medal - her story was so interesting and inspirational that it captured people’s imaginations.
