British Biology Olympiad success for Exeter pupils

Ten Exeter School pupils have been awarded medals in the demanding British Biology Olympiad in which over 7,000 pupils took part, with one Upper Sixth pupil qualifying for the next round. Upper Sixth pupil Suraj Ghandi scored the top mark in school and is one of the top 150 pupils in the country. Head Girl Rebecca Richardson also achieved a gold medal. Droplet begins second funding bid

A fast growing mobile app that combines loyalty with payments is one of the first companies in the UK to return to Crowdcube to achieve its aim of being in 20 cities by the end of 2016.

Droplet, which launched in Exeter last year, will look to secure more than £450,000 of funding in a second round bid that went live this week.

The decision comes after the company achieved its 12-month business plan of setting up and rolling out in 10 major cities, including Birmingham, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London and Norwich.

On 28 May over 1,000 runners will be taking to the city streets and glowing for their local hospice charity.

The 5k sponsored run starts and finishes at the University of Exeter, with runners being entertained by music as they head towards the city centre. The Green Party has condemned Labour’s plans for a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) across the city centre, condemning them as ‘muddled thinking’ which will fail to help local residents or businesses.

The proposals could lead to the confiscation of sleeping bags and personal items and ultimately lead to the criminalisation of homeless people unable to pay a fine.

City solicitors Rundlewalker have successfully retained the Law Society’s legal practice quality mark, Lexcel, a much sought after accreditation scheme for law firms in England and Wales.

HeartSWell South West is looking for people to take to the sky and jump 10,000ft from a plane to raise money for heart patients and lifesaving equipment in the Westcountry. The 10,000ft tandem skydive can be completed in several different locations across the UK, the nearest centre being the Honiton Dropzone in Devon. Search for missing Rose Polge continues

Devon and Cornwall Police are searching for 25-year-old Rose Polge who has been missing from Torquay since Friday.

Rose is described as white, 5 feet 2 inches tall with brown eyes, and long black hair either worn down or in a pony tail.

Since Ms Polge’s car was found in Ansteys Cove just after 6pm on Friday, officers from in and around the Torbay area have been involved in searches to locate her, as have the coastguard, RNLI and Dartmoor search and rescue.
