Pedestrian critical after collision on A379

Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision between a car and a pedestrian that has left one person with serious, life threatening injuries.

Police were called at around 3pm following reports of a collision between a man in his 50’s and a Citroen Picasso on the A379 at Holcombe, Dawlish.

A number of road closures were put in place as paramedics and Air ambulance attended. The Air ambulance landed by the Smugglers Inn and the injured man was taken to Derriford Hospital with serious life threatening injuries, where he remains in a critical condition.

Sidmouth College has been celebrating a glowing report from its recent Ofsted inspection.

The college continues to be recognised as a ‘good’ school with many outstanding features.

Inspectors from the school standards agency recognised the college’s rapid improvement over the last three years and said the outcomes achieved by students across all year groups was very strong.

Free leisure courses for Government research

Adults across Devon can learn a new skill for free in 2017 as part of Government research project looking at ways to improve mental health and wellbeing.

Devon County Council’s adult education service, Learn Devon, is offering free leisure courses in subjects including arts and crafts.

It is part of an England-wide project which aims to develop, deliver, share and evaluate educational approaches to support mental health.

The courses will be running at Learn Devon centres in Exmouth, Newton Abbot, Totnes, Tavistock and Bideford until July 2017, when the project ends...

Christmas jumpers raise cash for CHAT

There were some fantastic Christmas jumpers on display at Blundell’s School, Tiverton, on 1 December – all being worn for a good cause.

Pupils and staff paid for the privilege of putting on their best festive knitwear and the money raised will go to the Churches Housing Action Team (CHAT), which gives free, impartial and confidential housing advice to those experiencing housing difficulty in Mid Devon.

Pupils at Blundell’s regularly raise more than £10,000 a year for local, national and international charities through a variety of events and activities.

Rob Baxter says it’s imperative his Exeter Chiefs side keep their “foot on the pedal” after securing back-to-back victories in the Aviva Premiership in the past fortnight.

Ragamuffins Hair located in Kenton, Exeter, recently celebrated their 20th Anniversary by giving back to their community and hosting a charity event to raise money for local Exeter cancer support charity, Force (Friends of the Oncology and Radiotherapy Centre, Exeter).

Pop idol Olly Murs has announced an outdoor concert at historic Powderham Castle, near Exeter on Saturday, July 29 2017.

The popular singer-songwriter is one of British music’s biggest stars with record sales exceeding 10 million.

He played a sell-out show to more than 20,000 people at the venue in 2013.

Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday, December 2.
