Stagecoach South West announce timetable changes

From Sunday 3rd September 2023 Stagecoach South West are improving a number of bus services with new timetables introduced across the South West.

In Exeter, several bus services are enhanced and extra journeys introduced in partnership with Devon County Council and a number of high frequency bus corridors will be introduced.

Wet weather helps Exeter attraction pull in huge numbers

Unseasonably wet weather has helped one of the South West’s attractions pull in its highest number of visitors since the covid pandemic.

More than 2,100 people visited Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) last Wednesday (2 August).

It wasn’t the first rainy day of the school holidays but the dry conditions and warm welcome from staff at RAMM, certainly proved a hit. The museum and its permanent collections is free for all visitors to explore, although there is a charge for some exhibitions throughout the year.

Thousands of trees are set to be planted to mark the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III with a new government fund launching today (Saturday 5 August), celebrating His Majesty’s passion for the environment.

The new £2.5 million fund will enable local authorities to create green spaces and connect communities with nature as a permanent reminder of the Coronation, while helping meet the government’s targets to treble tree planting rates by the end of this Parliament and ensure that 16.5% of land area is under tree cover by 2050.

More than 350 businesses from across the South West have already expressed their interest in the new £200 million South West Investment Fund (SWIF) just weeks after its launch.

The government-backed fund, which was unveiled last month by the British Business Bank, aims to increase the supply and diversity of early-stage finance for new and growing smaller businesses across the region.

Regenerative farming courses start to bear fruit at Apricot Centre

Devon is proudly leading the way in the education of regenerative farming, sparked by funding from Devon County Council.

Following a successful pilot funded by the County Council’s Natural Capital Challenge Fund last year, the Apricot Centre Community Interest Company (CIC) in Dartington is now the only location in the country offering Level 2, 3 and 4 Diplomas in Regenerative Land Based Systems.

Darts Farm celebrated the first anniversary of its new restaurant, The Farm Table, in July by welcoming two iconic chefs to take over the kitchen for the evening.

Great British Menu winner, Mark Hix and local seafood hero, Mitch Tonks, created a unique 5-course seasonal menu, combining their celebrated styles with produce from the fields at Darts Farm and incredible artisan ingredients from the food hall; whilst sharing their stories about a lifetime of friendship through food.

South Western Railway reminds customers of reduced timetable

SOUTH Western Railway (SWR) is reminding customers of industrial action next week, Monday 7 to Saturday 12 August.

A ban on overtime working by the ASLEF union will mean that a reduced timetable, similar to this week’s timetable (Monday 31 July to Saturday 5 August), will operate.
