Charity calls for volunteers to help with Santa Run

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is delighted to be one of the chosen charities for the Exeter City Community Trust Santa Run in Exeter on Sunday 3rd December, and is looking for volunteers to help marshal the event.

Volunteers would be needed from 8.00am – 10.30am on the day of the run which starts and finishes in Princesshay, so you can then continue the festive spirit with a bit of Christmas shopping at the Christmas market afterwards!

YMCA Exeter team up with local businesses to help job seekers get work in the city

YMCA Exeter Job Club staff and their trained volunteers are teaming together with professionals from agencies and employers, on Wednesday 11th October at Belmont Chapel, for their Big Job Club – a day which helps to connect job seekers with employers and help with everything from CV writing to job applications.

YMCA Exeter has been offering job clubs in the community for the last eight years, but with their Big Lottery Funding coming to a close at the end of the year, the charity wants to encourage more people to make use of their all-age service while it is still available....

Digital marketing firm raises money for Macmillan with coffee morning

A local digital marketing agency has hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning, raising £200.95 for the cancer charity.

On Friday 29th September, MiHi Digital opened their doors at their HQ on the Devon / Cornwall border to welcome everyone for tea, coffee and a slice of cake.

University of Exeter a cappella groups take part in TV battle

Two University of Exeter a cappella groups are battling on a new primetime TV show to win the chance to record an album at the famous Abbey Road studios.

Semi-Toned and the Illuminations are taking part in a new Sky One programme to find the country’s best vocal group. If successful they will also get the chance to release a Christmas single.

The Jolly Good Jaunt on Sunday 29th October will again give walkers the opportunity to take part and raise vital funds for local charity Hospiscare.

Help keep women with learning disabilities healthy

Friends, family and carers of women with learning disabilities are being urged to help ensure that they have regular breast screenings.

It follows the latest NHS data which shows that significant numbers of women with learning disabilities in Devon did not have a breast screening during 2016. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and women with a learning disability are the least likely to attend screenings, even though it can save their life.
