Students at Exeter College are celebrating their university offers to world-renowned institutions, the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. South West divorce hotspots revealed as new data shows dramatic drop in applications

The latest release from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows divorces plummeted in 2022, following the introduction of ‘no fault divorce’ in April that year. The data, which covers January – December 2022, shows that divorces dropped by 30% compared with the previous year – the lowest number since 1971.

In conjunction with these statistics, the latest figures from the 2021 Census have unveiled the regional divorce landscape. Torbay has the highest divorce rate (11.5%) in the South West and the eighth highest in the UK.

Aldi is looking to hire 110 colleagues in Devon this year as the company looks to open new stores and update others.

Britain’s fourth largest supermarket is on the lookout for people of all levels of experience to fill roles across the region, with salaries of up to £43,440.

Cumberland Grange care home in Exeter recently presented FORCE Cancer Charity with a cheque for £215.87 following on from a successful coffee morning held at the home. FORCE provides free support and information to anyone affected by cancer at their centre in Exeter and at local community hospitals. They offer counselling, group sessions, complementary therapies, benefits advice, specialist physiotherapy and exercise guidance and other health and wellbeing support. Their services are available to cancer patients and their families.

Matford electricity plant decision delayed

Controversial plans for a new electricity substation to power thousands of new houses on the outskirts of Exeter have been put on hold.

Teignbridge Council’s planning committee was due to make a decision on the plant at Matford Home Farm, with their officers advising them to turn it down because it would be ‘overbearing and alien’.

But they were forced to abandon their meeting after receiving a crucial report too late for members to read.
