The RD&E ranks second in national cancer patient survey

Cancer patients at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital have rated the services they receive as the second best in the UK, according to survey results released this week.

The annual National Cancer Patient Experience Survey was completed by over 900 patients at the RD&E who had received a cancer diagnosis and attended the hospital in April, May or June 2017. Questions asked included how involved they were with their care and treatment; the levels of respect and dignity they received while in hospital and the support they received after going home.

Tesco colleagues across Exeter have thanked friends and family for their support in helping them raise £6,864 for Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

This year, 245 colleagues from stores and distribution centres across Exeter joined women from all over the UK to take part in this year’s Race for Life events.

Race for Life is a series of women-only 5k, 10k and Pretty Muddy events which raises millions of pounds every year for vital research in the fight against cancer.

Devon County Council is urging people across the county and particularly in the south west of Devon and Dartmoor to prepare for disruption on the county’s roads caused by high winds, surface flooding and debris today (Friday 12 October) and over the weekend.

There could be a total of up to 40mm of rainfall on Friday and Saturday (12 – 13 October) in southwest Devon and up to 14mm on the south and southwest facing slopes of Dartmoor. Closure of Lower Otter footpaths extended

The closure of the Lower Otter footpaths between Otterton and Budleigh Salterton will be extended for at least the next eight weeks to enable the restoration of the popular riverside path.

Although Devon County Council has put a formal six-month closure in place, every effort will be made to open the route earlier.

The Environment Agency is carrying out repairs to its collapsed culvert and the damaged bank and path, and is liaising closely with the County Council and with the landowners Clinton Devon Estates.

Six tonnes of apples harvested in time for Killerton’s Apple Festival

Over 700 people have helped continue the tradition of hand-picking apples from the orchard at the National Trust’s Killerton estate, in time to be pressed at Killerton’s Apple Festival on 13 and 14 October. On 4th October, the finalists from the Devon Schools Choir Competition, run by La La Choirs, took centre stage at Southernhay URC and competed for a chance to perform in Exeter Cathedral at the annual sell out concert, CLIC for Christmas. Three choirs had been shortlisted and the choirs at the final sang two songs each. Yet again, the standard was incredibly high, giving the judging panel a really hard time deciding between them. Stagecoach staff raise funds at World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event

Stagecoach South West has raised £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support, following a World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event at the Exeter depot.

HRH The Duke of Gloucester, officially opened Mole Avon Trading’s new £5.2M Country Store in Crediton, Devon on Tuesday 2nd October.

During his visit His Royal Highness met members of staff, company directors and key suppliers to the country store, most of whom are based in Crediton.
