Sovereign Housing Association invests £450k to give young people a housing voice

Sovereign Housing Association will invest nearly half a million pounds over the next two years in giving young people a voice in their housing and community future.

The housing association, which has homes across the south of England, will receive £225,250 in funding from the #iwill Fund, a £54 million joint investment from The National Lottery Community Fund and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) – and will invest the same itself – meaning that nearly half a million pounds will go towards encouraging youth participation.

Mental health services at Cranbrook Education Campus in Devon are set to receive a £500 boost thanks to the Community Champions scheme operated by regional housebuilder Persimmon Homes South West.

Devon authorities pledge support to Ukrainians fleeing conflict

Local authority leaders across Devon have spoken out in concern for the people of Ukraine and their families, following the Russian invasion.

Team Devon authorities, including Devon County and District Councils and the Devon Association of Local Councils, have pledged to work together to support Ukrainian refugees seeking sanctuary in the UK, and have each condemned Russia's actions.

Childline launches mental health campaign aimed at boys

Childline has found boys are five times less likely to talk with the service’s trained counsellors about their mental health than girls, and even less likely to come to them when they have suicidal thoughts.

New statistics from the NSPCC-run service show in 2020/21 they carried out 31,899 counselling sessions with girls about mental health issues compared to 5,622 with boys.

When it came to counselling sessions about suicidal thoughts and feelings, they delivered 11,719 with girls but just 1,592 with boys.

More Devon families get first preference secondary school

More families in Devon will receive their top preference secondary school this year.

Devon County Council announced today that 92.6 per cent of families who applied for a place next September have been offered their first preference - up more than one per cent from 91.5 per cent last year.

In all, 97.6 per cent of families will get one of their three preferences.

On top of the first preferences, 4.1 per cent have been allocated their second preference and 0.9 per cent their third preference.
