Slade included in England training squad

Exeter Chiefs fly half Henry Slade is included in the England squad preparing to face Scotland in the RBS 6 Nations clash on Saturday after Brad Barritt was ruled out of the reminder of the tournament.

The Devon-born 21 year-old, who has featured impressively at inside and outside centre for his club this term, replaces unlucky Barritt after the Saracens centre who suffered an ankle sprain against Wasps on Sunday.

South West jobs maintain steady course

The jobs market in the South West has fallen this quarter but remains firmly in positive territory at +6%, according to Manpower, the world’s workforce experts.

This Outlook is in line with the UK national average and puts the South West on a steady course after a couple of quarters of ups and downs in hiring intentions.

Stagecoach unveils bus station mural

Stagecoach South West has unveiled the final phase of its modernisation of Paignton Bus Station: a nine metre long mural featuring many of the Bay’s popular visitor attractions.

The mural represents the latest project completed in partnership with English Riviera Attractions (ERA), and the English Riviera Tourism Company (ERTC). It is designed to not only brighten up the bus station but also provide inspiration for anyone looking to plan a day out in the Bay.

Focus on mental health for No Smoking Day

On Wednesday11 March, The British Heart Foundation’s No Smoking Day returns for its 32nd year.

The annual campaign inspires and helps smokers who want to quit. This year, over one million smokers are expected to use No Smoking Day to quit.

As well as supporting as many smokers as possible to take part and begin their smoke-free lives, our Public Health team has been working with Devon Partnership NHS Trust to provide support for people with mental health issues – who are particularly susceptible to the damaging effects of smoking.

A group of youngsters are celebrating being the first graduates from an in-demand apprenticeship programme offering diverse career opportunities with national optical retailer Vision Express.

Males that mate more often are more insecure about their social status than those mating less, according to new research on the behaviour of burying beetles.

The study, published tomorrow (Tuesday 10th March) in the journal Evolution, provides new evidence that the social sensitivity of male behaviour is linked to how often male beetles mate.
