Exeter CAB launches citizens' manifesto

With election manifestos due to be published at the end of March, leading local advice charity Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau is promoting the Citizens’ manifesto.

The Citizens’ manifesto calls on the next Government to address three key issues relating to:

  1. Family finances
  2. Fairer markets, and
  3. Advice for the future

Bid to solve mysteries of flamingo fatherhood

A researcher at the University of Exeter has launched a bid to analyse the DNA of a group of flamingos in order to answer some of the questions surrounding paternity and social behaviour in the distinctive pink birds.

Paul Rose, a PhD student in the Centre for Research in Animal Behaviour, has been working with flamingos for three years at Slimbridge Wetlands Centre in Gloucestershire and is now embarking on a crowdfunding bid to genetically analyse who is related to who within the flock.

East Devon District Council is offering an exciting opportunity to run a cafe in a stunning seafront location on the Jurassic Coast in Seaton.

Stagecoach scoops top apprenticeship award

Stagecoach’s UK Bus division has been named Large Employer of the Year at the People 1st Apprenticeship Awards.

The Perth-based transport group scooped the award after impressing judges with its comprehensive bus engineering apprenticeship programme which has successfully delivered more than 350 apprenticeships over the past seven years.

Exeter Library shortlisted for national award

Devon County Council’s flagship Exeter Library has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

The library, which recently underwent a multimillion pound refurbishment, is one of only six from across the UK to be selected for the coveted Library of the Year accolade at the forthcoming Bookseller Industry Awards.

Health Secretary supports Devon’s community hospitals

The Secretary of State for Health, The Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, has said that community hospitals “have a vital role to play” in localised care in Devon.

The Secretary of State’s comments came after meeting local Members of Parliament Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, the Rt Hon Hugo Swire, MP for East Devon, and Mel Stride, MP for Central Devon, to discuss the running of community hospitals in Devon on 10th February.

A dark day and bright night at Meeth Quarry

Devon Wildlife Trust together with the North Devon Astronomical Society are inviting members of the public to join them for a unique viewing of the solar eclipse followed by star gazing at Meeth Quarry nature reserve. Record numbers of pupils to attend Waste Summit

A record number of Devon students are expected at this year’s Waste Summit, which takes place later this month.

Around 100 pupils from eight secondary schools are due to attend the 13th annual Waste Summit which will be held at County Hall on Thursday 26 March.

This free event is part of Devon County Council’s waste education programme and is aimed at Devon’s Secondary Schools to increase students’ awareness of the impacts of wasting resources. This year’s summit will explore everything from materials for mobile phones and the role of energy from waste plants.
