Thousands of unpaid family carers across Devon, who were already experiencing financial hardship after having to give up paid work to perform their caring role, are being pushed deeper into debt and poverty, according to Devon Carers. A leading housing association is set to build 218 homes in rural areas across Devon over the next two years.

In a week when the housing sector celebrates Rural Housing Week – a yearly event organised by the National Housing Federation – LiveWest has demonstrated its commitment to rural housing by building 508 rural homes in the past two years.

New bus network confirmed for Exeter to reflect post-pandemic travel patterns

Stagecoach has today unveiled plans for a more sustainable bus network to attract greater passenger numbers over the long term.

The British Horse Society (BHS) is urging drivers to humanise horse riders after it released new statistics revealing that a total of 437 incidents and 18 horse fatalities in the South West of England were reported to the charity during 2021.

Overall, incidents in the South West of England have increased by 150% compared to the previous year and the region had the highest incident rate in the UK. Devon was the worst affected area with 126 incidents and 17 horse fatalities, followed by Somerset - 81 incidents, and Gloucestershire – 73 incidents.

Organised crime may be having an increasing impact on rural communities across the UK.

In its 2020 Rural Crime Report, NFU Mutual recorded a nine per cent increase in rural crime with some of the highest increases (14 per cent) in the South West.

Mental health charity, Step One, has been supporting people in Devon with mental health and learning disabilities for 85 years, working closely with local NHS Trusts, GP surgeries and communities across the county.
