Rainbow Living launches support for Learning Disability Week 2015

Exeter-based charity Rainbow Living are proud to be supporting Learning Disability Week 2015, taking place 15-21 June, and are encouraging people in Devon to ‘Hear My Voice’ as some of the people the charity supports share their stories to help raise awareness of learning disability.

On Thursday 11th June, a team of executives from Exeter Family Friendly will launch the start of awareness about LDW by cycling 72 miles for Rainbow Living, stopping on route at Exeter Family’s offices to launch the week with Rainbow Living and the Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Lesley Robson.

A rare chance to hear live performances of some of Simon Belshaw's Music Machines. The works will be performed by Simon Belshaw, Julie Hill and Ruth Molins. Using a blend of contemporary and 1980s technology this is a concert of unique, experimental, electronic music not to be missed. AnTech celebrates achievements

For the first time, AnTech Ltd has held a day of celebration to recognise successes throughout the company.

Last week, over 50 staff and guests gathered to celebrate over 115 years of long service, international patents and internal departmental achievements at the company’s head office in Exeter.

AnTech’s in-house team organised and designed awards to commemorate individuals that have in particular helped bring the company to its success. A marquee was constructed and decorated with marketing materials ranging back over the 23 years the company has been in business....

Devon Young Farmers complete Three Peaks Challenge

A group of six Devon Young Farmers and four volunteers from the Farming Community Network (FCN) have completed the Three Peaks Challenge.

The team consisted of Emma and Georgina Davie from Newton St Cyres YFC, Jamie Packham and Alice Giles from Bow YFC, Devon YFC county organiser Nick Creasy, past county chairman Chris Berry, alongside Jo Jones, Colin Smallacombe, Sarah Pateman and Sara Holland from the FCN.

Grant awarded to fund food crop research

A Physicist at the University of Exeter has received a substantial grant to help improve the sustainability of commercially valuable crops.

Professor Julian Moger has received a share of the £885,781 grant to fund pioneering research into how to improve the uniformity and resilience in Brassica seeds – which include cabbages and mustard plants.

The research will develop new varieties of Brassica seeds that are not affected by the effects of adverse temperature conditions during the early stages of production.

Over 40 members of Moose International from Crediton, Exmouth, Teignmouth, Taunton, Tiverton and WheatleyLodge in Exeter are pictured at their lunch at Downes Crediton Golf Club.

After lunch, the Governor of the Wheatley Lodge, Brian Gould, thanked Mayor of Crediton Frank Letch for a fascinating talk on REACH and his lifestyle.

Mr Letch demonstrated how he does everything with his feet as he has no arms.

A cheque for £150 was presented to Mr Letch for REACH.

Thunderstorms and rain warning for Devon

A severe weather warning for heavy rain has been issued for Devon on Friday.

Forecasters say isolated severe thunderstorms are likely to develop on Friday, which will be succeeded by a band of more widespread heavy rain and occasional thunderstorms, affecting much of the region into the early hours of Saturday morning.

The public should be aware that there is a chance of some very localised significant disruption, mainly from surface water flooding. Lightning and hail could also cause some impacts.
