Jim’s Journey: A 630-mile crusade against cancer

A former NHS communications manager from Mid Devon is preparing to walk 630 miles along the entire South West Coast Path this summer to raise money for two local charities that support cancer patients and their families.

Jim Bray left his job with the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust last month to take up an eight-week challenge entitled Jim’s Journey.

The 36-year-old will be raising money for Exeter-based charity FORCE and the Seamoor Unit, the new £2.5 million chemotherapy and day treatment centre at North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple.

Exeter Northcott Theatre is delighted to announce that La Navet Bête, Metta Theatre and Paddleboat Theatre are now Associate Companies of the organisation.

Exeter taxi driver to launch Poetry Tours

An Exeter taxi driver is to launch his project ‘West country poetry tours’ in less than a week.

Well-liked and admired Shane O’Sullivan, or better known as Jack the Hat, began the concept for this project just before Christmas. It aims to bring people over from America to experience the hidden gems of the West Country.

He said: “We are trying to get them to come and see some of the highlights which we believe are important and often overlooked by tourists.”

Learn how to cut grass and weeds without the need of a noisy fossil fuel burning lawnmower or strimmer

This practical day course will cover how to use and maintain a scythe (a traditional mowing tool) and provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to mow anything from a small lawn to a meadow.

During the course we'll make hay the traditional way to encourage wild flowers in the meadow.

Tea and cake provided, participants must be 12+.
