Devon farm supplies cheese for Virgin Trains’ new onboard menu

Quicke’s cheddar cheese is to be featured on Virgin Train’s new menu.

The menu, developed for Virgin trains exclusively by the award winning chef James Martin will feature Quicke’s cheese for first class customers.

The Quicke family have been farming in Newton st Cyres for nearly 500 years, making traditional clothbound cheddar.

The multi award winning cheddar is created using traditional recipes handed down from generation to generation with milk from their specially bred herd of grass fed cows.

Community helps Mill Museum win fund

Uffculme-based Coldharbour Mill Museum is the latest winner of RGB Building Supplies’ Well Built Community Fund following a public vote where the local community was asked to show their support.

Up against groups based in Paignton and Wiveliscombe, people in the local areas were asked to vote for who they would like to be the lucky recipients of £1,000 worth of building materials from RGB.

More than 400 votes were received with the museum coming out on top.

Coldharbour Mill is one of the oldest woollen mills in the UK having been in continuous production since 1797...

Man wanted for breach of tagging order

Police in South Devon are seeking a 21-year-old man who is wanted for a breach of an electronic tagging order.

Dennis Ham from Buckfastleigh is currently sought by police and officers are following a number of lines of enquiry to ascertain his whereabouts and intend to arrest him and return him to court when he is located.

He is described as a white man around 1.70m (5’7”) tall, of medium build with long hair and a beard.

Police are appealing to anyone who has seen Ham or has had recent contact with him to email 101@dc.police.uk or to telephone 101 quoting log 128...

Fire crews called to kitchen blaze in Exeter

Firefighters were called to a blaze in Exeter this evening (6 July).

Three appliances from Danes Castle, Middlemoor and Topsham were sent to deal with the fire in a kitchen at a property in Bennett Square at around 6.30.

On arrival crews confirmed there was smoke and flames issuing.

A cooker was slightly damaged by fire and the ground floor kitchen was slightly damaged by smoke.

The fire was extinguished using two breathing apparatus, positive pressure fan and dry powder extinguisher.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

Proposals to extend Teign Estuary Trail

A public exhibition on proposals to extend the Teign Estuary Trail to Dawlish will be held later this month.

Devon County Council is currently exploring the next section of the Trail and how best to provide links through Dawlish.

The exhibition will be held at the Community Centre on Dawlish Strand, from 12noon to 7pm, on Friday 15 July.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to comment on a number of route options which are being considered and will be on display at the exhibition.

Stagecoach activities for Catch the Bus Week

Stagecoach South West is joining forces with sustainable transport group Greener Journeys to promote the benefits of bus use through the fourth annual ‘Catch the Bus Week’.

WAVE Trust, a UK charity, is raising awareness in Devon with a new campaign to reduce child maltreatment by 70 percent by 2030.

More than 1 in 5 children in the UK will suffer significant abuse or neglect in their lifetime, with 90% of these receiving no support.

The 70/30 campaign aims to prevent the maltreatment of children by tackling the root causes, such as parental substance abuse, domestic violence and maternal mental health problems.

Early, effective support can help parents to overcome these problems and prevent harm before it happens.

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of their seminal album Sheet Music – which included Top 10 hit The Wall Street Shuffle – 10cc visit Exeter’s Great Hall as part of a 26-date theatre tour.

Lapstock to celebrate 10 years of Music at the Mill

The mid Devon village of Lapford will come alive at the end of July when local residents stage the 10th Music at the Mill Festival known to everyone as Lapstock.

The two day festival features bands from all over the country and is highly regarded amongst musicians for its professional staging and equipment.
