Donkeys and Dinosaurs on the Jurassic Coast

The Donkey Sanctuary is working in partnership with the Jurassic Coast Trust to hold “Dinosaurs & Donkeys”, a family-friendly day out on Wednesday 27 July.

The day will commence at The Donkey Sanctuary near Sidmouth at 9:45am, with a leisurely guided walk through fields and woodlands to the beach at Weston Mouth, home to spectacular Triassic-era cliffs that form part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. There will then be beach games, followed by a walk back to the Sanctuary.

Exeter City Council leader raises stakes on high street betting terminals

Exeter City Council leader Pete Edwards is urging the government to listen to local government and reduce the stakes on fixed odd betting terminals from £100 to £2.

Two years ago Exeter City Council, alongside 91 other local authorities from across the political spectrum, supported a Sustainable Communities Act to try to improve the situation.

The proposal called on the government to slash the maximum stakes on gaming machines found in high street betting shops from £100 a spin to £2, bringing them in line with other machines available in arcades, pubs and bingo halls....

Exeter Cathedral awarded £170,000 for urgent repairs

Exeter Cathedral has been awarded £170,000 for vital repairs to keep the building dry as part of the government’s First World War Centenary Cathedrals repair fund.

The grant will pay for urgent work to the drainage around the Cathedral, which is vital for taking water away from the stonework and not causing damp and decay.

The Dean, Very Revd Jonathan Draper, welcomed the grant, and said it would pay for important work to part of the Cathedral which – though unnoticed by the thousands of visitors who pass through its doors each year – was vital for the building’s long term...

Young actors to soar at Exeter Northcott

Following a hugely successful audition call, Exeter Northcott Theatre is proud to present the young actors who will play the roles of John and Michael Darling in its 2016 Christmas show, Peter Pan.

Along with the Lost Boys cast, the roles will split equally between two teams of actors throughout the run which starts on Friday 2 December.

Exeter’s small business community has received a boost with the opening of a new work hub and the expansion of another.

Devon work hubs, which is supported by Devon County Council, is a growing community of friendly and flexible work spaces, perfect for home-based and mobile workers, business start-ups, freelancers and entrepreneurs.

Used car dealers sentenced

Two used car dealers operating out of Bideford, North Devon, have been found guilty of selling dangerous and unroadworthy second-hand cars.

At Exeter Crown Court on 21 July 2016, Paul Fitzgerald John Hussey received a suspended sentence and was ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work and Adam George Wallis was ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid work.

In summing up the judge said it was only by luck that their activities had not led to a ‘serious road accident.’
