Leading West Country Independent Estate Agency, Wilkinson Grant & Co, will be supporting YMCA Exeter in several large fundraising initiatives throughout 2017.

This will include the annual Sleep Easy event at Exeter Castle on Saturday 4th March, the extension of an existing campaign to make special donations to the charity and through additional funding support of the charities ‘Changing Rooms, Changing Lives’ campaign.

Wonford Community Centre held an open day at its recently refurbished Phoenix Suite on Saturday. Jo Evans, community champion from the Tesco Exeter Vale store and colleagues from the store team went along on the day to hand out a variety of refreshments. The Wonford Community Centre is a charity that provides activities, clubs and events for the benefit of the local community. Since Devon Youth Services ended the Phoenix Youth Centre had been empty. Temporary lights on Bridge Road in Exeter tonight

Bridge Road in Exeter will be reduced to one lane tonight (Thursday 9 February) with temporary traffic lights in place overnight from 11pm to 5am.

The lane closure is needed while work is carried out on the new streetlights on the downstream side of Countess Wear Bridge which may need to have ‘shields’ fitted to the back of them, to ensure that the light they provide is limited to the highway and does not cause light pollution to the river and the outside of the bridge. Jack Bennett, a young person from East Devon District Council’s SWITCH club on the Millwey Rise Estate in Axminster, had his outstanding service to sport in the community rewarded by a place at the regional final of the prestigious Tpas awards 2017, which was held at a ceremony in London on 3 February.

Exeter builders merchant helping libraries with materials giveaway

With libraries across the county being subjected to funding cuts, RGB Building Supplies is inviting them to apply for £1,000 worth of materials as part of its Well Built Community Fund.

East Devon stately home, Escot House is celebrating a special birthday this year as a venue for weddings, conferences and special events.

21 years ago, Escot held its first wedding for a couple whose parents had worked on the estate.

“We still know the bride and groom well,” explained Lucy Kennaway, who manages events and catering at the venue.

Devon secures funding to create more nursery places

Devon County Council has successfully bid for capital funds from the Department for Education to create more nursery places for three and four year olds.

The funding enables local authorities to deliver additional places under the new extended entitlement by September 2017.

Entitled families who meet the criteria set by the Department for Education will be able to take 30 hours of funded provision a week during term time or they can stretch the entitlement across the year to fit with their working hours. New figures show that more than £2.1 million of National Lottery funding was awarded across Exeter last year alone. 59 National Lottery grants were given out in the city during 2016; providing a vital boost to arts, sports and heritage projects alongside community groups helping those most in need.
