Landmark 27,000th mission flown by Devon Air Ambulance

Last week saw Devon Air Ambulance reach yet another landmark, by attending it’s 27,000thmission.

On 11 February the service was called to help a rural patient, in an agricultural location, who had suffered chest injuries, after being crushed by a cow.

Nigel Hare, Operations Director for Devon Air Ambulance said, “Due to patient confidentiality we don’t know much about the patients we help. For our 27,000th mission we were deployed at 1531 from a 999 call and were in the air at 1534 hours. The flight to scene took just 11 minutes.”

A Devon couple have invented two new seagull deterrents which humanely prevent gulls from landing on roof tops.

The two new products, the Defender® Roof Ridge Bird Spike and the Defender® Chimney Pot Bird Spike, were devised by husband and wife team David and Kursty Jones. The products attach around chimney pots or directly to roof ridges and stop seagulls landing without hurting them.

The growing nuisance value of noisy seagulls is a well-recognised social problem and, until now, opinions have differed on how to handle the problem.

Exeter City took stand against homophobia for 10th year

EXETER City Football Club said “no to homophobia” at its home game with Bury on Saturday, February 16.

The match was designated as the Club’s annual “Football v Homophobia” fixture and a number of initiatives were organised by the Exeter City Supporters’ Trust, its One Game One Community (OGOC) Group and Exeter City Community Trust.

HRH The Duke of York meets Met Office apprentices

HRH The Duke of York met with some of the current Met Office apprentices on Monday (18 February), while visiting Exeter to hold a Pitch@Palace On Tour event, an initiative founded by The Duke in 2014.

The Met Office’s apprenticeship programmes are run with training from a number of providers including Exeter College and the University of Exeter, and are aimed at developing the next generation of data engineers, scientists and technology experts, as well as other business skills needed in the Met Office and industry as a whole.
