Entries are now open for the 2020 Michelmores Property Awards, which celebrate excellence within the South West's property and construction industry.

The Michelmores Property Awards are now in their 18th year and showcase the very best commercial and residential projects from the previous 12-months.

People who live in Devon and Cornwall may be getting a text message from the Environment Agency this week to let them know they have been automatically registered for free flood warnings.

People on the Vodafone mobile network who live in areas at risk of flooding across the South West of England will receive an automated text message informing them that they have been signed up. The message will include a link to let them know what they should do if they receive a flood warning, and the option to opt out.

Exeter’s oldest school has celebrated its unique status as a boarding school by becoming part of the world’s largest orchard.

Exeter Cathedral School – the only school in the city to offer boarding as well as day places – last week held a ceremonial tree-planting in the School’s mindfulness garden.

Deadline extension for 5G "call for evidence"

The deadline for Devon County Council’s call for evidence on 5G has been extended until New Year's Day.

As part of a spotlight review on 5G, which is being carried out by the County Council’s Corporate Infrastructure and Regulatory Services Scrutiny Committee, members of the public are being asked for their views on the technology.

Devon County Council has no current plans to make use of 5G in its ICT and is not involved with planning applications for mobile infrastructure, but it wants to hear from people to help inform the findings of its investigation.

Voters reminded to double check polling station venues on poll cards

Voters in East Devon are reminded to double check their poll cards to ensure that they visit the correct polling station at the General Election next Thursday (Dec 12).

Three polling stations within the district, which come under the Tiverton and Honiton Parliamentary constituency, have changed venues for this election.

The changes are:

Gateway polling station has moved to Seaton Marshlands;

Colyton Town Hall polling station has moved to Reece Strawbridge Centre

Offwell Village Hall polling station has moved to Offwell Sports and Social Club

The County Council has teamed up with the Woodland Trust and the Devon Ash Dieback Resilience Forum to encourage communities and landowners to plant more trees.

Ten trees were planted in the grounds of County Hall last week by pupils from St Leonard’s Primary School and members of the Devon Youth Parliament as the Council marked National Tree Week and joined the Woodland Trust’s Big Climate Fightback.

Ottery coffee shop Tickety-Boo has pledged to raise more funds for its chosen charity Exeter Leukaemia Fund with a special ‘mince pie week’.

From Tuesday 17 to Saturday 21 December, the coffee shop team will donate the price of a mince pie to ELF for each one bought by a customer. That’s £1.50 per mince pie!
