Devon County Council has warmly welcomed the Government’s announcement today recommending approval for Assisted Area status to cover large areas of Devon up to 2020. This status establishes the areas of the UK where regional aid and enhanced levels of Government assistance will be available to support disadvantaged economies through the businesses within these. New use for seized cannabis farm equipment

Researchers at the National Marine Aquarium are set to benefit an after unusual donation from Devon & Cornwall Police. A range of powerful lights, growing trays and other equipment seized from illegal cannabis farms in Devon will now be put to use for growing seagrass, as part of the Community Seagrass Initiative. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), this three-year project aims to help conserve native seagrass and seahorses, getting the human communities that live around seagrass beds involved with the communities of marine life that thrive on the beds themselves. English former football player and manager, Kevin Keegan OBE took time out from a ‘Southern Sporting Club’ lunch presentation held at Sandy Park to sign an official Exeter City football shirt. The footballing legend aged 63 was the keynote speaker at the sporting lunch hosted by David Duckham MBE, the former Coventry and England rugby player.

Awards launch party for businesswomen in Devon

Nominations for this year’s NatWest Venus Awards opened at a launch party in Exeter last night (Monday April 28).

The awards aim to celebrate and recognise the achievements of the county’s working women and entrepreneurs.

Devon’s first event was held last year and attracted almost 1,500 nominations. This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever before and will be launched at an evening ceremony at the city’s glamorous Amanda Marsden Lifestyle Salon.

New study into Sidmouth to Feniton Trail

A major new study has been published looking at the possibility of developing a walking, cycling and riding route from Sidmouth to Feniton.

The concept of the 16km multi-use route, known informally as the Otter Trail, has been around for many years but has now been explored in more detail by the sustainable travel charity Sustrans. Public meetings are underway to discuss major changes to Devon’s children’s centres service as the county council prepare to cut £1.2 million from the service.

Look out for a NAFAS "Lonely Bouquet"

There’s no better way to say it than with flowers. Which is exactly why NAFAS (The National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies) is using beautiful little bunches to spread some love around the UK on National Flower Arranging Day (Friday 2nd May 2014)

Police are urging householders to be on their guard following further reported incidents of a phone fraud where unsuspecting victims are duped by people posing as police. Reports of this scam have now been recorded in the South Hams area with four incidents recorded in Paignton yesterday, Thursday, 24 April, with two victims alone having parted with more than £12,000 each. This follows an incident last week when an elderly man from Paignton was duped out of £12,000 by someone posing to be a police officer from the Metropolitan Police who claimed that someone had been arrested in possession...

PCC helps charity plant seeds for a brighter future

Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg has backed a charity’s attempts to steer young people away from a life of re-offending. Grow 4 Good, based in the grounds of Dartmoor Zoo, Sparkwell, aims to use horticultural work to reduce social isolation in young people which can lead them into lives of crime.
