Join Newton Abbot Racecourse for the biggest fixture of the racing season on Saturday 22nd August.

With over £120,000 worth of prize money on offer and the listed Class 1 Lord Mildmay Memorial Handicap Chase, it’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy the end of the summer holiday season.

Racing starts at 13:55, with gates opening at 11:15. The last race will be at 17:25.

Serious collision closes A38

The A38 northbound remains closed near Chudleigh following a serious collision earlier this morning (Monday 17 August).

Emergency services were called at 3.45am after a Ford Transit van left the road and collided with a tree near to the Chudleigh turn off.

Three men have been taken to hospital and one of the men has sustained serious injuries.

The A38 northbound has been closed at Chudleigh for accident investigation work, and is likely to remain shut all morning.

Tetris can block cravings

Playing Tetris for as little as three minutes at a time can weaken cravings for drugs, food and activities such as sex and sleeping by approximately one fifth, according to new research.

In the first test of its kind to study people in natural settings outside of a laboratory, participants were monitored for levels of craving and prompted to play the block-shifting puzzle game at random intervals during the day.

Budleigh gets new cycle track

Budleigh’s much-wanted new cycle track is up and running thanks to the hard work of East Devon District and Budleigh Salterton Town Councils.

The 347 m track, which has cost £26,000 to construct and tarmac, runs alongside a footpath on the Green and means that cyclists can cycle safely into the town and avoid busy traffic in the area.

The idea for the cycle track came from the town’s residents and community groups who were asked by the Councils what sporting facilities they would like to see funded from developers who have built housing in the area.

The GoHARD Obstacle Run Series is a 3km and 6km run incorporating various obstacles, including a camouflage net crawl, a Bulgarian bag carry, log lunge, farmers walk, balance beam and ‘over and under’ hurdles. Failure to cross the balance beam will see competitors tasting dirt as they are then made to execute 5 solid burpees. The ‘over and under’ hurdles include a series of solid 6ft walls, intermixed with low beams requiring good upper body strength and agility.
