Local chartered accountants, Francis Clark has announced that TV personality and former Secretary of State Michael Portillo will be the keynote speaker at the firm’s second Finance in the South West seminar to be held in February 2014.

UK inflation falls to 2.2%

The UK's inflation rate fell to 2.2% in the year to October 2013 as measured by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI).

The figure is the lowest for more than a year and is down from 2.7% in September, according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The ONS reports that the largest contributions to the fall in the rate came from a drop in prices in the transport sector (notably motor fuels) and in education where the impact of rising tuition fees was felt less acutely than a year previously.

Sampson Hall recently held a two day programme to develop the understanding of culture, leadership, and strategy with two Independent Schools.

The event was held at the beautiful Dartington Hall, near Totnes. Living Wage increase sees £400 pay rise to people across UK

People across the UK could see a pay rise of up to £400 a year with the rise in the living wage today. The Living Wage is an opt-in scheme which has seen employers across the UK agrees to pay a fixed rate above the minimum wage designed to fit the cost of living. The Living wage has been raised to by 25p to £8.80 in London and by 20p to £7.65 in the rest of the UK per hour of work. The minimum wage currently sits at the considerably lower sum of £6.25 per hour meaning that someone working an average week of 37.5 hours would be earning close to £53 extra a week. South West legal firm Stephens Scown LLP has cemented its position as one of the leading firms in Devon and Cornwall, with the announcement of the independent legal guide Chambers & Partners 2014, which has awarded the firm more top rankings than ever before.
