The Family Law Company appoints additional Shareholder

The Family Law Company has announced the appointment of experienced family law Solicitor Imran Khodabocus to Shareholder.

His appointment brings the number of Shareholders to ten, contributing to the firm’s succession planning strategy.

Khodabocus joined the specialist law firm in 2016. He now heads up the Domestic Abuse team, specialising in children and domestic abuse matters which are complex and sensitive. He also acts for children and grandparents in care proceedings.

Flybe share price rises

Exeter-based Flybe's share price improved this morning as the airline released its latest finacial figures. Flybe, which issued an encouraging trading update for the first quarter, said it had managed to cut the cost of a UK seat by 3.4 per cent to £51.92. The budget airline share price was up 6.3 per cent in early trading on the back of an upbeat trading statement, reporting “sustained passenger and revenue growth” saying it was now in “the next chapter of its transformation”.

Seat capacity climbed 12.3 per cent to 2.8m seats, while passenger numbers grew 9.8 per cent to 2.1m....

Flybe today announced that Paul Simmons, Chief Commercial Officer, is to leave the company in mid-January 2016 to take up a role with Malaysian Airlines based in Kuala Lumpur. Following Paul's departure, Flybe will move to a new commercial organisational structure. The Chief Commercial Officer role will be split into two, with both new roles sitting on the Operating Board and reporting to CEO, Saad Hammad. The Chancellor’s recent Budget delivered a new incentive for companies to register their intellectual property rights, according to IP experts at Exeter law firm Stephens Scown. The draft Finance Bill published in the wake of the Budget has stopped tax relief for the amortisation (i.e. depreciation) of goodwill and other intangible assets. Everys Solicitors has agreed a deal to acquire the legal practice of an eminent Iranian law firm with offices in Shiraz and Tehran.

Everys, headquartered in Exeter, will now open a branch office in Tehran headed up by first ranking Iranian qualified lawyer Saeid Salari.

Women in business in Devon and Somerset are set to benefit from a £1.1m superfast broadband fund as part of plans announced by the Prime Minister this week to ‘to end the gender pay gap in a generation’.

Devon and Somerset successfully bid for a share of the money which is being made available as part of the extension of a Government initiative, announced by the Chancellor in the Budget, to help women take advantage of faster broadband to move their businesses online, expand or set up new businesses.

Sugru, the world’s first mouldable ‘glue’, closed its crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube after raising £3,548,820 from 2,700 investors.

International firm set to build £5m HQ in Exeter

International materials handling company STILL UK has signed a deal for a new £5m facility at Hill Barton Business Park in Exeter.

Planning consent was granted in May for the new 5,100 sq m building that will become the UK HQ for the company. Contracts were exchanged last week.

Flexible working gains support

Flexible working is gaining support from senior level managers.

In a new survey carried out by the world’s largest flexible workspace provider, Regus, 76% of Exeter professionals believe their senior management support the idea.

However, 71% of Exeter respondents say that managers require specific training in order manage their remote team members successfully. In particular, maintaining close contact is key.
