Caldwell set for Ulster

Summer signing Ryan Caldwell says he wants to build on an encouraging start to life at Exeter Chiefs when he features in this evening's pre-season friendly at Ulster Rugby.

The 29-year-old forward was one of eight new recruits brought to Sandy Park by head coach Rob Baxter during the close season - and he got his first taste of action at his new club when he featured in the second half of the 24-17 win at Cardiff Blues.

Caldwell returns to his Belfast birthplace aiming to sink his former club as he starts in a powerful Exeter pack for their latest pre-season work-out....

Injury blow for Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs scrum-half Dave Lewis will sit out the club’s remaining two pre-season friendlies after injuring an elbow in last week’s win over Cardiff Blues.

The 25-year-old sustained the blow during the second half of Exeter’s 24-17 victory at the BT Sports Cardiff Arms Park – and has since undergone a scan to determine the full extent of the damage caused.

Already head coach Rob Baxter has confirmed Lewis will sit out tomorrow’s trip to Ulster and the forthcoming friendly against Championship side Worcester Warriors on August 29 – and is hopeful the former Gloucester No....

The work of Premiership Rugby coaches in helping to promote the game within Brazil has been given the Royal seal of approval following a visit to the country from HRH Prince Harry.

Premiership Rugby in partnership with the British Council and SESI in Brazil have set-up an innovative rugby programme in the South American country called "Try Rugby Brazil".

Working with local partners SESI-FIEMG, FIESC and FIESP across the states of Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina and São Paulo, Premiership Rugby coaches - including former Exeter Chiefs Community coach, Dom Caton - develop local...

Will Chudley says it’s key that Exeter Chiefs look to get into the winning habit as quickly as possible ahead of the new 2014/15 season.

Having kicked off their pre-season programme with a 24-17 victory at the Cardiff Blues, the Aviva Premiership club head across the Irish Sea this week to tackle Ulster Rugby at the Kingspan Stadium on Friday night (7.30pm).

With head coach Rob Baxter keen to run the rule over all his squad – including his eight new signings – scrum-half Chudley knows it’s important that each and ever Exeter player lays down a marker ahead of the upcoming...

Baxter pleased with friendly win

Rob Baxter declared himself “very pleased” after watching his Exeter Chiefs side record a notable 24-17 victory over Cardiff in their first pre-season fixture at the BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Friday night.

First half tries from Jack Arnott, Will Chudley and Sam Simmonds, coupled with nine points from the boot of fly-half Gareth Steenson, proved sufficient enough for the Aviva Premiership club to overcome the Welsh region, who countered with tries of their own from George Watkins, Chris Dicomidis and Ellis Jenkins.

Two of Cardiff’s scores came in the final minutes of the...

Chiefs squad to face Cardiff Blues

Exeter Chiefs kick-off their pre-season programme tonight with a testing trip to Cardiff Blues at the Arms Park (7.30pm).

Having defeated the Welsh region twice in last season's Heineken Cup, Rob Baxter's side know they can expect a riposte of sorts on their latest venture into the Principality.

Weeks of graft on the training field have all but ended for the Chiefs - and it's on-field matters that take centre stage as the countdown to the new 2014/15 season begins in earnest.

Baxter will take the majority of his first-team squad to the Arms Park for tonight's...

Exeter Foundation charities selected

The organisations which raise money during Exeter Chiefs’ home games have been selected for the new rugby season.

This year, 19 organisations will have the chance to assist in the coordination and collection of the funds at Sandy Park. These funds are ring-fenced specifically for these organisations and are distributed at the end of the season at the Exeter Foundation annual presentation dinner.

The organisations and charities selected by the Exeter Foundation are all Exeter-based and range from Vranch House, an independent day school and clinical centre for children with...

Irishman Jerry Sexton says he is “excited” by the prospect of trying to earn himself a contract with Aviva Premiership club Exeter Chiefs.

The 21-year-old forward has been given until the end of November to prove his worth to head coach Rob Baxter, who is keen to bolster his second row options with skipper Dean Mumm currently sidelined with a shoulder injury.

Sexton – the younger brother of Ireland and British Lions fly-half Jonathan Sexton – settled into Devon earlier this week having seen a playing opportunity in France shudder to a halt due to contract problems.

Sireli Naqelevuki's chance to shine

Sireli Naqelevuki says a big year awaits him as he marked his return to action with a try for Exeter Chiefs Academy in their 24-0 pre-season friendly win over Redruth on Tuesday evening.

The Fijian international featured for an hour at the Recreation Ground in a new playing role in the visiting back-row.

After a disappointing campaign last season - hampered somewhat by a troublesome knee injury - the 33-year-old is fighting fit ahead of the 2014/15 campaign and ready to make his mark once more.

Part of the process, however, is the idea that head coach Rob Baxter is...
