Match report: Chiefs 27 Saracens 19

Gareth Steenson equalled the record for most penalties in an Aviva Premiership match as he kicked Exeter Chiefs to a significant victory over Saracens at Sandy Park.

The Irishman produced an unblemished nine from nine to further underline the top four credentials of Rob Baxter’s side, who in recent weeks have also toppled defending champions Northampton Saints and Wasps. Saracens countered with a late converted try from Maro Itoje and four penalties from Charlie Hodgson, but it was scant reward in a game in which the Chiefs ruled the...

Chiefs side to face Saracens

Rob Baxter has called on his Exeter Chiefs side to fight “tooth and nail” to keep themselves firmly in the mix at the top end of this year’s Aviva Premiership.

The in-form Chiefs currently sit second in the standings after defending champions Northampton Saints reclaimed pole position with their victory at Saracens last Sunday.

For Baxter, though, seeing his team perched well within the top four is hugely rewarding after what has been an impressive campaign to date for the Devon club.

Not only are the Chiefs flying high in the league, but they top both their LV= and...

Rob Baxter has spoken of his delight after this week confirming he and his Exeter Chiefs coaching team have all signed new contracts tying them to the club until 2018.

With their current deals due to expire at the end of the current campaign, the Chiefs board have wasted little time in ensuring they have the futures of Baxter and his team of trusty lieutenants in place for the foreseeable future.

Baxter - who took over the running of the Chiefs in 2009 following the departure of former Director of Rugby, Pete Drewett - has been the lead figure in Exeter’s recent rise out of...

Exeter Chiefs' close shave for Movember

Exeter Chiefs are hoping to kick their opponents into touch by growing the best face furniture for Movember – so they popped into Lugets of Exeter last week to make sure their taches were trimmed and ready for inspection. Lugets - the gentlemen’s outfitters and tailors on Cathedral Green - has devoted the whole month to raising money for charity in the name of Movember and last week it turned its store into a barber’s shop thanks to professional barber, Mark Gaughan, from the Groom Room in Torquay.

Mark was on hand to help Chiefs, including Luke Cowan-Dickie, Dave Lewis, Jack...

Bateman says Chiefs boys are buzzing

Greg Bateman believes lessons learnt last season by the Exeter Chiefs are paying dividends this term with the Devon club riding high in the Aviva Premiership.

Rob Baxter’s side finished last season’s Premiership campaign in eighth spot, matching the same position that they finished in their inaugural season amongst English rugby’s elite.

It was a disappointing outcome for the Chiefs, especially having landed top six finishes in their two previous seasons.

There were, however, mitigating factors according to head coach Baxter, who not only saw his side slip to a...

Jack Nowell shook off the effects of pre-game illness to help Exeter Chiefs to maintain their fine form in this season’s Aviva Premiership.

The England international admitted after his side’s latest top flight win over Wasps that he had been ‘sick’ and ‘feeling rough’ just hours before he claimed a try double for the Devon club.

For Nowell, the win not only saw Rob Baxter’s side momentarily move to the summit of the Premiership, but it also ended his own 19-month wait to score a first team try. Ironically, his last Premiership try came against Wasps in a 37-24 win at Adams...

Match report: Exeter Chiefs 31 Wasps 15

Whilst sporting headline makers will no doubt be keeping close tabs on this year’s Formula One finale this weekend – here in Devon it was Exeter Chiefs who moved into pole position of the Aviva Premiership with a fine victory over visiting Wasps.

Rob Baxter’s clocked up their sixth league win of the season to leapfrog defending champions Northampton Saints – who play Saracens tomorrow – at the top of the table.

A first half try double from Cornishman Jack Nowell, plus another touchdown for the free-scoring Thomas Waldrom,...
