Mumm demands response from Chiefs

Skipper Dean Mumm says it’s only right that the Exeter Chiefs put pressure on themselves ahead of Saturday’s Aviva Premiership encounter with Gloucester at Sandy Park (4.30pm).

Saturday’s 31-14 loss at local rivals Bath meant it was successive defeats for Rob Baxter’s side over the festive period - and Mumm knows it won’t get any easier for him and his team-mates with the Cherry & Whites next on the agenda.

That said, a return to home comforts will be most welcome for the Devon club, who back in September claimed one of their seven league victories this season when they...

Exeter Chiefs deafeted at The Rec

When push came to shove, it was Bath who emerged triumphant in a pulsating Aviva Premiership encounter with Exeter Chiefs at the Recreation Ground.

With little to choose between either side for much of the game, it was Mike Ford’s gladiators who ultimately prevailed in the famous Roman City.

Tries from international stars Horacio Agulla, Kyle Eastmond, Dave Attwood and Anthony Watson were the key highlights, whilst a further 11 points from the boot of England ace George Ford brought the curtain down on the stubborn Exeter resistance.

The Chiefs, to their credit,...

Chiefs side to face Bath

Rob Baxter says he wants to see a “back to basics” approach from his team as they look to tackle rivals Bath Rugby in tomorrow’s Aviva Premiership clash at a sold-out Recreation Ground (2pm).

Having seen their eight-game winning streak brought to a halt at Sale Sharks a week ago, Baxter is hoping there will be no additional festive hangover from his team as they look to return to winning ways.

With both clubs riding high at the top end of English rugby’s top flight, the battle for key league points merely adds to the spice of what is always an intriguing battle between both...

Exeter Chiefs have confirmed that Tom James is to head back to former club Cardiff Blues. The Welsh international, who joined the Chiefs during the summer of 2013 from the Blues, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal and will rejoin the region at the end of the current campaign. Winger James has to date made 28 appearances for the Aviva Premiership club, scoring five tries in the process, the latest of which came in Exeter's recent European Challenge Cup win at home to La Rochelle. "I've enjoyed my time at the Chiefs, making not only a lot of good friends, but a lot of memories as well...

Exeter Chiefs hooker Jack Yeandle insists there will be a ‘honest’ assessment of Friday’s performance after the Devon club slipped to their first defeat in nine games.

After an impressive run of recent results for Rob Baxter’s side, the Chiefs were dealt an untimely setback in the Aviva Premiership as they crashed 18-11 to Sale Sharks at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Danny Cipriani’s 13-point haul, together with a try for winger Mark Cueto, proved sufficient for the Sharks to sink the Chiefs, who themselves countered with a try from Thomas Waldrom and two penalties from Gareth...

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter admitted he and his team will do a bit of ‘soul-searching’ in the aftermath of their 18-11 Aviva Premiership defeat at Sale Sharks.

The Chiefs slipped to their first defeat in nine games at the AJ Bell as a Danny Cipriani inspired Sharks brought an abrupt halt to Baxter’s in-form side.

England fly-half Cipriani claimed one of two tries for the home side, the other came from winger Mark Cueto, as well as adding two penalties and a conversion to fire Steve Diamond’s side back into the top four.

The Chiefs countered with Thomas...

Chiefs' winning streak comes to an end

Exeter Chiefs saw their eight-game winning streak brought to an abrupt halt as Sale Sharks gave themselves and their fans an early Christmas present with this hard fought victory.

Steve Diamond’s followed up their April hammering of the Chiefs by again knocking the stuffing out of Rob Baxter’s in-form side at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Second half tries from Mark Cueto and Danny Cipriani – who also added two penalties and a conversion – were enough to sink their Devon rivals on a wet and wild night in the North West.

The Chiefs countered with a try from the free-scoring...

Chiefs side to face Sale Sharks

Rob Baxter admits the savage bite Sale Sharks gave his Exeter Chiefs side back in April remains fresh within the minds of himself and his players ahead of their latest Aviva Premiership match-up at the AJ Bell Stadium tomorrow night (7.45pm).

The Chiefs suffered a record top flight loss when the Sharks claimed only their second-ever victory against their Devon rivals when they won 55-12 at Sandy Park.

In the aftermath of that result, Baxter apologised to the club's fan-base, claiming his side had "let the supporters down" with an abject display.

Since that dark day...

Baxter delighted as trio sign new deals

Rob Baxter has spoken of his delight after another three members of his Exeter Chiefs squad today pledged their long-term futures to the Aviva Premiership.

Having already secured the services of both Phil Dollman and Gareth Steenson in recent weeks, the Chiefs head coach has now added Don Armand, Will Chudley and Matt Jess (pictured) to the club’s retained list.

With the contracts of all three players due to expire at the end of the current campaign, Baxter has wasted little time in tying down the futures of three of his core first-team squad.

Chudley and Jess have...

Vainikolo warns of Euro test

Tongan winger Fetu’u Vainikolo says Exeter Chiefs can expect a stern test when they resume European Challenge Cup action in the New Year.

Although top of Pool Two after four rounds, Rob Baxter’s side have yet to shake off the shackles of Irish rivals Connacht, who kept up their pursuit of the Devon club by themselves recording a French double in recent weeks.

With the Chiefs having claimed maximum rewards in both of their European encounters against La Rochelle, Connacht also collected a healthy nine-point haul from their two clashes with Bayonne to lie just two points...
