Recycling centre users urged to think before disposing of waste

Devon County Council is reminding users of Household Waste Recycling Centres to think about the waste they are taking to the sites to avoid wasting the time of council staff and that of the emergency services. It follows the temporary closure of the Knowle Hill Recycling Centre in Exmouth on Wednesday after an unknown chemical was dumped in the main bay at the centre. For the safety of the public the centre was evacuated and closed for a few hours and the fire service were called. Exeter student to join team kayaking length of Wales collecting plastic

Brogan Coates, a second year marine biology student studying at the University of Exeter, is to join a team of women kayaking the length of Wales collecting plastic as part of a campaign to raise awareness of the damage that single-use plastics cause to our oceans every year.

The campaign, which first happened last year, is organised by ‘Love Her Wild’ an organisation designed to empower women into exploring the world around them.

Overnight closure planned on Bridge Road in Exeter

Bridge Road in Exeter will be closed overnight on Wednesday 9 May.

The road will be closed from 8.30pm on Wednesday 9 May, and will re-open by 5:30am the following morning (Thursday 10 May).

The closure is needed for the installation of Automatic Traffic Counters, and Devon County Council’s maintenance contractor Skanska will also be taking the opportunity to clean out drainage gullies.
