PEOPLE across Devon are being urged to shop to save lives, as Cancer Research UK stores re-open after three months of devastating closures.

The majority of the charity’s shops are getting back to business to tackle a shortfall in funding caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With its shops typically contributing more than £25m every year to vital research, Cancer Research UK has suffered a dramatic loss of income since they were forced to close temporarily at the end of March.

Dollman agrees new short-term deal at Chiefs

Phil Dollman says he’s looking to end his Exeter Chiefs career on a high note after he this week agreed terms on a new short-term deal with the Gallagher Premiership club.

The popular Welshman’s contract expired at the end of June, but after discussions with Director of Rugby, Rob Baxter, he is now extending his career with the Devon club until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

People welcomed back into city centre as pubs and restaurants reopen

City Council Leader Phil Bialyk has welcomed people back into the city as a number of restaurants and bars open up for the first time since ‘lockdown’.

Some 80% of Exeter residents are not planning to go down the pub when they reopen next week, citing fears about social distancing and a potential second wave of the Covid-19 virus.

Merkur Cashino to re-open in Exeter

Gaming company, Merkur Cashino, has announced plans to reopen their venue on Fore Street, Exeter on Saturday 4th July. The announcement comes later than planned due to a government U-turn on 11th June stating that all gaming establishments were to remain closed until further notice.

Endurance expert takes on marathon challenge

A scientist who has worked with runners including Eliud Kipchoge and Paula Radcliffe is preparing for his own endurance challenge – running his first sub-three-hour marathon at the age of 50.

Professor Andrew Jones , of the University of Exeter, has spent his career researching endurance exercise and advising top coaches and athletes.

Exeter part of national project to support disadvantaged students affected by COVID-19 to enter higher education 

The University of Exeter has joined a national project designed to offer pivotal support to disadvantaged students, who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, to enter higher education.
