The first day of the Exeter Respect Festival 2013 has been hailed as a resounding success as a record number of people - approximately 13,500 in total so far according to Cllr Ian Martin, one of the Festival organising committee - flooded through the gates of Belmont Park for Exeter's celebration of diversity. With the weather set to be fine again tomorrow (2 June) it is fairly safe to say that the Festival will smash last year's total visitor numbers of 20,000 over the two days.
The Festival continues to grow from strength to strength, attracting a cosmopolitan crowd from all...

Staff at a Devon County Council recycling centre in Exeter were shocked to see a cat stranded in a deep container amongst unwanted materials deposited by local residents.
SITA UK employees Chris Murphy and John Hallett who were working at the Pinbrook Road recycling centre on Sunday 12 May, sprung into action to rescue the cat.
They placed it in a second hand cat basket, that was fortunately available in the recycling centre’s resale shop, and called the local people at Cats Protection who were soon on the scene and took the male cat into their care.

Financial advice has changed dramatically in recent years. I have heard it said – admittedly by another financial planner – that my chosen field of work has moved from being an industry to a profession. I’m personally of the opinion that there is still work to do, by the profession as a whole, before the wider public accept this distinction.
However, it is clear that gone are the bad old days of insurance salesmen knocking on your door at all hours to flog you a product that you didn’t really need and would be unlikely to ever be able to claim on.

The national summer Drink Drive campaign is being launched on 1 June and Devon and Cornwall Police are again supporting this initiative.
The primary aim of the campaign is to reduce the number of injuries on the roads where drink or drugs is a factor. The campaign runs from Saturday 1 June to Sunday 30 June.
Whilst the enforcement of drink/drug driving is a 24/7 focus for the police, this campaign is intended to raise awareness of the consequences and deter motorists from getting behind the wheel if they are impaired. The advice has always been “Don’t Drink and Drive”...
Occupying an outstanding position with commanding panoramic views over its parkland, the surrounding countryside and along the Exe Estuary, Mamhead House is quite simply breathtaking.
