As hordes of screaming ‘Directioners’ prepare for the UK release of One Direction: This Is Us 3D, Vue Entertainment has ordered 20,000 pairs of earplugs for the army of parents and chaperones caught up in the midst of this modern day Beatle-mania.

Available across all 82 Vue cinemas nationwide, the complimentary earplugs will ensure that accompanying chaperones can enjoy the film without being worried by the high-levels of expected screaming and shouting in the auditoriums during the screenings.

Get sporty with FORCE Cancer Charity at Powderham Castle

The FORCE and Francis Clark 10k, 5k and Family runs will be held at Powderham Castle on Sunday 8th September 2013 from 11 am. The 10k route will start on the field in front of the Castle, go up the driveway, along the footpath and out onto the road - taking in the wonderful estuary view. There is then a climb to the forests behind the Castle, before a cross-country track leading back to the terraces. Family Fun Bike Ride to Escot

The Tour of Britain cycle race returns to Devon

The East Devon coastal town of Sidmouth will be the riders’ start location for Stage 6 of the Tour.

As in 2011, the riders will once again pass right through the centre of Exeter.

For the first time in the modern era of the race, riders will finish Stage 6 with a King of the Mountains climb on Dartmoor. With its stunning landscape and breathtaking views Dartmoor is a perfect setting for a cycle race and will present a real challenge for the riders and a great location for spectators.

1950s Fun Day

Volunteers from the Research and Knowledge Transfer department at the University of Exeter will be helping host a 1950s Fun Day at Cadogan Court Care Home, Barley lane, Exeter for the residents and their friends and families.

All are welcome at the event which will take place on Tuesday 3 September between 11am and 3pm.

Staff will be dressed in 1950s fancy dress to make the most of the day’s activities and there will be prizes for the best costume.

Activities will include Lucky Dip, Hoopla, Bric a Brac, Roll a Penny, tea, coffee and cake stall, and a prize draw.

Simple treatment available at Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital to stop urgent trips to the loo

A new treatment is being offered at the Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital to help people who suffer from the need to go to the toilet urgently. The treatment is nurse-lead but overseen by a consultant for both urinary and faecal incontinence.

Needing to go to the toilet too often is a problem for up to 20% of the population, and many people find it hard to talk to their GP about it.

A radical new treatment – the percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation – now gives patient a new, easier option.

Exeter shopping centre helps to crack crime

Princesshay Shopping Centre in Exeter is the latest group to join a police scheme to tackle antisocial behaviour. The centre security team is undertaking a training and accreditation process under the Community Safety Accreditation Scheme (CSAS). The scheme allows Devon and Cornwall Police to accredit certain minor police powers to staff or organisations who are committed to working with communities and police in tackling crime and disorder.
