Loving Anita needs a home

Anita the Akita formerly known as Bullet - a very unsuitable name for a beautiful girl who was found wandering the streets of Bradford. She was picked up as a stray and placed in the dog pound and given seven days for her owner to find her.

It was discovered she was micro chipped and the owner was contacted. He claimed that he had sold her on but nevertheless he would come and collect her, presumably to sell her on again.

He didn’t show up and Anita’s time was up. Seven days had gone by and she was scheduled to be put to sleep.

Local charity, Hospiscare is embarking on its first overseas challenge, taking people off the beaten track into one of the most unusual and exotic, natural environments on the planet – the Sahara Desert.

South West arts organisation Albow have been awarded a £125k to develop This Is On, an app that seeks to revolutionise how we find live listings. Working with partners including University of Exeter and University of the West of England (UWE) Albow will develop the new mobile and desktop app over the next year. Number of job seekers in Devon continues to fall

The number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) in Devon is continuing to fall, with figures dropping by 204 over the past month alone.

According to new figures released today, the number of people claiming in Devon have fallen from 6,717 in September to 6,513 in October meaning that figures have now decreased over the past eight consecutive months.

Year on year, the number of people claiming JSA in Devon has fallen by 2,262 claimants or 29.2%, a bigger decrease than the national figure of 18% over the year.

Teacher receives Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate

An Exeter School teacher has been awarded the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Meritorious Service.

Mathematics teacher and Combined Cadet Force Commander, Dr Geoff Chapman was presented with the certificate over half-term.

The Exeter Dental Centre is supporting this month’s Mouth Cancer Action Month, organised by the British Dental Health Foundation, by helping to raise awareness of mouth cancer in Exeter.

Running for the duration of November, Mouth Cancer Action Month features the tagline ‘If in doubt, get checked out’ and urges members of the public to visit their dentist for an oral screening.

Tributes to Exeter soldier killed in car crash

Tributes have been paid to Exeter soldier Sapper Kieron Blight, who tragically died in a car crash on Monday evening.

Kieron was a passenger in a car which overturned and hit a tree. He died at the scene.

The driver of the car, a man from the Peterborough area, was taken to Salisbury District Hospital with serious head injuries.

Kieron, 19, was a serving engineer with the 26 Engineer regiment and had just returned from an operation in Canada.

Friends and colleges have paid tribute to the "cheery" soldier who had a "exciting future".
