Firefighters answer over 250 storm calls

Firefighters responded to over 250 calls in Devon and Somerset yesterday as storm winds battered the South West. People were rescued from cars and unsafe buildings by the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) often in the same area simultaneously. Area Manager Phil Martin said that people were gambling with their lives if they chose to drive through floodwater. Firefighters strike tonight

Firefighters in England and Wales will walk out on strike between 7pm and midnight tonight (Christmas Eve) in their long running dispute with the government over pensions.

The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue service (DSFRS) have said that they have “substantial contingency plans in place to ensure that we will continue to respond to emergency incidents.”

The strike comes after last night’s storm saw DSFRS make over 250 calls to weather related incidents last night including several life threatening emergencies

Appeal to trace items stolen in Exmouth

Police are appealing for witnesses following a burglary in Exmouth.

Officers are investigating the burglary of jewellery, commemorative coins, and foreign currency stolen from a house in Portland Avenue while the occupants were away on holiday sometime between 23 and 28 November 2013.

Police are also appealing for help in identifying items left behind in the break-in - believed to belong to the offender.

Heartbroken boy wants stolen pony home for Christmas

A hearbroken five-year-old boy has teamed up with the RSPCA to help find his best-friend, a 24-year-old Shetland cross Welsh Pony.

Tic-Toc, the elderly pony was stolen from his paddock in Cambridgeshire over two weeks ago prompting his young owner Josh Carnagie to seek help from the general public.

Josh’s mum Catriona Carnegie said: “Josh is absolutely devastated. He has grown up with Tic Toc, they are best friend. Last year he wrote a letter to Father Christmas asking him to make Tic Toc better because he knows he’s on medication for his feet.
