Heavy rain to remain all week

Devon is on course for more bad weather as the Met Office predicts heavy rain and strong wind from tonight until the end of the week.

The forecasters say that several more areas of low pressure, bringing heavy rainfall are expected to hit the county from tonight onwards. The fresh wind and rain bring with them more pressure from flooding in much of the South West particularly in areas already badly affected by the recent exceptional rainfall. Graham to Leave Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs lock Romana Graham is to leave the Aviva Premiership club at the end of the season to take up a contract with French club La Rochelle.

The 27-year-old lock, who joined the Chiefs at the start of this season from Super Rugby outfit Waikato Chiefs, has agreed a two-year contract with the Pro D2 side.

To date the Hastings-born forward has featured five times for Rob Baxter's side with all of his appearances having come in Cup competition.

Dawlish alternative route choice revealed

Network Rail has revealed its choice for an alternative railway line to the heavily damaged Dawlish line today.

The plans come as the rail authority had consider an alternative to the current coastal line after the recent storms destroyed an 80m section of track near Dawlish.

The potential route from Okehampton to Plymouth via Tavistock through areas of Dartmoor National Park has already come under criticism from some transport campaigners as it bypasses large areas of South Devon.

World of Jobs first for Exeter

An international jobs fair – the first of its kind in the South West - is due to take place in Exeter on 26 March.

‘The World of Jobs” at the Corn Exchange, Exeter will show-case jobs from around the world. It is aimed at people of all ages who want to find out more about working abroad or elsewhere in the UK and will be hosted by the European Employment Service (EURES) and Jobcentre Plus, Devon Cornwall and Somerset. It is part funded by the European Commission.

Between 10am and 3pm anyone attending will be able to meet employers, apply for jobs and speak to expert...

Local charity Hospiscare is looking for cycling enthusiasts to fill its spaces at the 2014 Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100.

The public ballot for the exciting cycling event closed when it reached capacity of 80,000 people in just one month.

Hospiscare is delighted to have nine golden bond places available for the 2014 event and is looking for keen cyclists to help support the charity.

Last year the local hospice charity had seven supporters take part in the event who between them raised over £4,500.

Bike Blaze in Whipton

In the last few hours, fire crews have been called to put out a motorcycle fire in Whipton, Exeter.

The incident, which occurred at Summer Lane on Saturday evening, involved one vehicle being severely damaged in what is believed to be a deliberate attack.

One fire engine from Middlemoor station was sent out, and the crew extinguished flames using buckets of water. No injuries have been reported.

No Concern for Chiefs Game

Exeter Chiefs currently have no concerns with regards to today's Aviva Premiership clash with Northampton Saints taking place.

Although the region is set for more inclement weather today, the Chiefs - together with support from Premiership Rugby - have put in place essential preparations plans to ensure the 7pm kick-off will go ahead.

The South West is again being readied for a battering by the elements as high winds and heavy rain approach the region. Met Office warnings for heavy rain are in place prompting further flood fears as another 10mm-20mm of rain is expected to fall on already saturated ground. The Met Office has said: “The public should be prepared for disruption to transport and locally to power supplies, particularly when combined with the impacts of heavy rainfall.”
