Donation boost announced for two vital local services

Two vital community organisations serving Devon have received a major boost with news that they are to receive around £1,000 each from a special ‘good causes’ fund set up by local housebuilder Persimmon Homes.

The Exeter-based company supports local charities and good causes through an innovative ‘Community Champions’ programme, which selects two worthy recipients every month.

One of the latest winners is Hospiscare, the local hospice charity for Exeter, mid and east Devon. Originally established as a community nursing service in 1982, Hospiscare now cares for patients...

The search begins for Devon’s Best Young Landscape Artist 2022

Young artists aged 18 and under can now compete for the title of Devon’s Best Young Landscape Artist 2022. Devon CPRE, a South West branch of the countryside charity CPRE, held the competition for the first time last year and was impressed with the quality and quantity of entries from across the county.

The charity is inviting budding young artists to showcase their creativity by capturing Devon’s unique and precious landscapes in the medium of their choice. There are two entry categories - one for teenagers and one for younger children - with cash prizes for the winners....

RGB thanks community for generous donations to Ukraine appeal

RGB Building Supplies is thanking those in the community who donated to its appeal for essential items that could be passed on to Ukrainian citizens.

In support of the Builders Merchants Federation’s (BMF) national appeal, RGB received 13 bulk bags of donations. The bags usually hold around 800kg of sand or aggregates.

The donations included thermal clothing, bedding, sleeping bags, torches, first aid kits, toiletries, baby items, household cleaning items and non-perishable food.

Local retirees are invited to join the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Yolonda Henson, to celebrate the Show Suite Opening of McCarthy Stone’s new Retirement Living Plus development, Pym Court in Topsham, on Thursday 30th June.

The Co-operative Bank has given £200 to Kenyan Educational Sponsorship community group which is dedicated to helping young people in Kenya achieve their academic potential, enabling them to realise their ambitions and make the most of their lives. They are currently sponsoring three bright but extremely poor students Marcy, Alfred and Vivian.

On Saturday 18th June The Jive Aces, UK’s number one jive and swing band and Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists, performed on Market Square at Guildhall Shopping Centre and gave a free two hour performance to all shoppers with an important message.
