Young people in Exeter, entering university for the first time this autumn, are being encouraged to get the Meningitis C vaccine booster.
Meningococcal group C disease is a rare but life-threatening disease that occurs mainly in young children and young adults.
Young people are at a greater risk of catching meningitis just after starting university as they will be mixing closely with lots of new people, some of whom may unknowingly carry the meningococcal bacteria.

A surge in trade mark filings indicates that Devon companies are continuing to perform well following the challenges of the last few years, according to a leading intellectual property lawyer.
Stephens Scown LLP has filed 55 per cent of all trade marks filed by professionals in Devon and Cornwall this year. Hundreds of people will be joining paralysed former jockey Sarah Gaisford at Exeter Racecourse on October 9 when she takes part in an emotional horse ride around the racecourse where she had her life changing fall in 2007.

Councils in Exeter have vowed to work more closely together in an effort to tackle weeds in the city.
It was agreed at a meeting on Monday (22 September) between representatives of Devon County Council and Exeter City Council that a more joined-up approach was needed to address the issue.
Devon County Council (DCC) is responsible for the upkeep of highways in the city, including the treatment of weeds. For a number of years, Exeter City Council has been commissioned to carry out the spraying of weeds on behalf of DCC.

Exeter City Council will be carrying out door-to-door enquiries this month as part of a new electoral registration system.
This summer marked the launch of a new system of individual electoral registration.
In mid-July, 80 per cent of Exeter residents received a letter confirming that they had been successfully transferred to the new system.
The remaining 20 per cent, were sent a form asking for further information. These may be people who have recently moved, or changed their name, for example.
