Outdoor gym for Broadclyst

The results are in! A voting event has been held by Broadclyst Parish Council Council for residents of Broadclyst to choose their new free-to-use outdoor gym.

The turnout was impressive, with 72 residents from all age-groups coming along to vote at The Pavilions on the afternoon of Friday 17 October.

Residents got to vote on which one of three designs they wanted installed, the winner with 56% of all votes was a design from Sutcliffe Play. This design features six pieces of equipment that up to ten people can use at once. The result now needs to be ratified by Broadclyst...

'Pig out' at Tar Barrels fundraiser

Ethical restaurant Rusty Pig is holding a special themed event during Tar Barrels in Ottery St Mary on November 5 to raise funds for the town’s Carnival Committee.

£5 from every booking will go directly to the committee to help ensure that the town’s annual carnival continues.

Rusty Pig Chef, Robin Rea explained: “I thought this would be a great way for people to have an even more entertaining experience of Tar Barrels, whilst at the same time raising a good sum for the carnival.

Exeter pensioner in line for national award

A volunteer cook from Exeter who has dedicated the past 17 years of her life to catering for people affected by brain injury is to be honoured at a national awards ceremony.

Margaret Bird, 82, from Silverton village, on the outskirts of Exeter, will compete against only two other nominees from across the UK for The Stephen McAleese Outstanding Contribution to Headway Award, which will be presented at an annual awards ceremony organised by Headway – the brain injury association.

Margaret, 82, moved to Exeter from Cambridgeshire with hopes of retiring almost twenty years ago...

Staying safe on Devon’s roads

Road users are being reminded to make sure they “get noticed” when the clocks go back this weekend.

Devon County Council is urging pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders to wear reflective and fluorescent clothing to ensure they can be seen on the county’s roads as British Summer Time comes to an end.

Car drivers are also being asked to “give cyclists space” and look out for all other road users as the winter nights draw in, especially when visibility is limited due to mist, rain and fog.

Companies across Devon took part in the county’s first Resilience Show in Exeter which was held on Thursday (23 October).

Free advice and insight into an array of sustainable ideas, products and services was on offer from experts at Resilience Show 2014, held at Southernhay Hall in the heart of Exeter.

The show was organised by Exeter firm Green My Business with all profits from the day going to the Southernhay Church Buildings Appeal.
