Trust shortlisted five times for UK awards

THE Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust is hoping to follow up its win at the national HSJ Value in Healthcare Awards in 2014 with more success in the 2015 event.

A year after the Trust’s stroke therapy team tasted victory, the organisation has been shortlisted five times ahead of the 2015 awards ceremony this month.

The awards, led by flagship publication the Health Service Journal, recognise and reward outstanding efficiency and improvement by the NHS.

Family pay tribute to Devon crash victim

A driver who died in a collision on the A386 near Lydford on Sunday 23 August, has been named as 34-year-old Holly Beddoes.

Holly, from Okehampton, sustained fatal injuries when her Renault Clio was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Astra around 7.50pm. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her family has provided the following tribute:

“Our dearest darling Holly was taken from us so suddenly. There are no words to describe the loss we feel.

Mosses are very small plants which absorb moisture through their leaves. They act like sponges and can absorb huge amounts of water. Lichens are made up of a mutual relationship between a fungus and an alga. The fungus forms the main body of the lichen providing protection for the alga while the alga manufactures food using the sun's energy.

Zero tolerance on social housing fraud

An Exeter man has been sentenced at Plymouth magistrates after illegally subletting his Local authority council flat when he was living somewhere else.

David Mukanirwa, 31, of Darwin Court was prosecuted under S1(2) of the prevention of Social Housing Fraud Act 2013 for subletting his Exeter flat on two occasions whilst he lived in Swindon after advertising it for rent on Gumtree.

Mr Mukanirwa pleaded guilty and said that he told the council that one of the subtenants was his girlfriend so that he could get permission from them for her to stay there. However, she said that...

Tony Rowe gets freedom to drive sheep through Exeter

Tony Rowe will be given the Freedom of the City of Exeter tomorrow (2 September) and celebrate afterwards by driving a flock of sheep through the city centre!

Tony is to be honoured for his services to Rugby Union, which has led to the promotion of Exeter around the globe.

Tony is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Exeter Chiefs.

In the 17 years since he was made chairman of the Club, he has seen the Chiefs go from strength to strength and gain promotion to the Premiership in 2010. He has also been at the centre of Exeter hosting this year’s Rugby World...

Warning over counterfeit RWC tickets

With less than a month to go until Rugby World Cup 2015 kicks-off in England and Cardiff, fans are being warned to only buy from official sources after the discovery of counterfeit Rugby World Cup 2015 tickets in circulation.

The City of London Police are working with Tournament Organisers, England Rugby 2015, and Tournament Owners, Rugby World Cup Limited, to carry out a full investigation to help ensure that fans are made aware. An image of one of the counterfeit tickets can be downloaded here.
