Top honour for law firm's managing partner

The managing partner of a leading Devon law firm has won the accolade of Managing Partner of the Year at a national legal awards.

Robert Camp, managing partner of Stephens Scown LLP, won the honour at 360 Legal Group’s annual awards, held in Warwickshire last week. Now in their ninth year and sponsored by Lloyds Bank, the awards are designed to recognise excellence across the legal profession.

Prince Harry set to visit Exeter

All eyes will be on Exeter today as Prince Harry is set to attend the Rugby World Cup Pool C match between Georgia and Namibia at Sandy Park (kick off 8pm).

This is the first time the honorary president of the Rugby World Cup has watched a match which doesn't involve England in this year's tournament.

During his visit the prince will also meet a group of young people who have benefited from the local Rugby Empowering Employment programme, which helps 16 to 24 year olds who have had problems finding work.

Exeter’s railway wins trio of national awards

Exeter’s railway was a triple winner at the national Community Rail Awards held at Torquay’s Riviera International Centre on 1st October.

In front of an audience of more than 330 rail industry staff and volunteers, a campaign to promote the counties’ most scenic rail routes won first prize in the Marketing category. The campaign included the GreatScenicRailways.com website, a stall at London Paddington and an eye-catching advertising campaign. This led to a 40% jump in website traffic for the Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership in their work to attract more tourists to the region...

Exeter CAB offers pensions guidance

Yesterday marked six months of freedom and choice for pensions and Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau is encouraging eligible people in Exeter to seek free guidance to make sure they understand their options.

The new pension freedoms, introduced in April, mean people over 55 who have a defined contribution pension now have the option to take their pension savings as an annuity, cash or flexibly over time.

Alongside these changes the government launched Pension Wise, a free, impartial service to help people approaching retirement understand their options so they can make informed...

Appeal following theft of marine equipment

Police in Exmouth are appealing for information following the theft of marine equipment.

The theft occurred sometime between Sunday 30th August and Saturday 3rd October when thieves removed a padlock from a boat moored in the river Exe estuary at Exmouth and stole equipment including a Honda outboard engine, an inflatable doughnut ring and fishing equipment, valued at £900.

Business as usual in Exeter Fanzone

It’s business as usual in Exeter’s Rugby World Cup 2015 Fanzone despite England not qualifying for the quarter finals of the Tournament.

The great atmosphere that has been enjoyed by more than 17,300 people continues in the Fanzone today (Wednesday 7 October) with Exeter’s second Host City match, Namibia versus Georgia being screened in Northernhay Gardens at 8pm.

Before that, there’s South Africa v USA at 4.45pm on the big screen, plus live music and entertainment in between and after all the Rugby action.

Five Trust projects showcased at national awards event in London

FIVE successful projects launched by the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust were showcased at one of the industry’s biggest awards events.

The Trust was a multiple finalist in the HSJ Value in Healthcare Awards, which recognise and reward outstanding efficiency and improvement by the NHS.

The Exeter Community Nursing Centre, Exeter cluster pharmacy team and orthopaedic department at North Devon District Hospital were shortlisted for the event at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Two Exeter charities get to 'Pass GO'

Charity begins at home – the Monopoly home of houses and hotels.

Exeter Monopoly chiefs say they were so “overwhelmed” with the public’s response to news that a city charity is being given the opportunity to ‘Pass GO’ that they have DOUBLED their offer.
