Disruption warning at Lympstone car park

Lympstone residents who park their vehicles at Underhill Car Park are being warned that essential works to a nearby pedestrian footbridge next month will mean fewer parking spaces for up to 12 weeks.

Contractors on behalf of the Environment Agency will start work to replace the footbridge across the Watton Brook at the car park on Monday January 11. The bridge is in a poor condition and is being replaced with a new one.

One of the contractor’s first tasks will be to create a temporary bridge to maintain pedestrian access throughout the works.

Baby fish will perish in acidified oceans

The ability of baby fish to find a home, or other safe haven, to grow into adulthood will be severely impacted under predicted ocean acidification, academics have found.

Research published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B, the international team, which included a researcher from the University of Exeter, reports the interpretation of normal ocean sound cues which help baby fish find an appropriate home is completely confused under the levels of CO2 predicted to be found in oceans by the end of the century.
