Funding boost for Devon services

More than £8 million extra will be spent on services in Devon next year.

County councillors have won an extra £8.4 million in rural support and other grants from Local Government Secretary Greg Clarke.

It made Devon County Council the fourth highest beneficiary in the country after robust lobbying from council leader John Hart and the county’s MPs.

At the authority’s annual budget meeting it was confirmed how the extra money will be allocated.

Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park has announced its annual seasonal open days to find 150 new team members for their busy summer period, and beyond.

Chagstock Festival organisers have confirmed that Rock N Roll & Songwriting Hall Of Famer, Donovan will headline Friday night on the festival’s 10th Anniversary this July.

Nags Head Bridge to close for safety works

The Nags Head Bridge near Cullompton will be closed from 7-18 March for essential safety works.

‘Road restraint’ improvement works will be carried out on the B3181 bridge and follows concerns that some drivers have not been negotiating the bend on the east side of the bridge safely.

The work will include removing damaged timber fencing and installing ‘trief’ kerbs in front of an existing retaining wall. This will minimise the risk of vehicles leaving the carriageway.

Shaun Sawyer will remain as chief constable of Devon and Cornwall Police up to 2021. We are urgently calling out for volunteers from Exeter who love to watch darts, to help us on Thursday March 3 at the 2016 Betway Premier League fixture, held at the Westpoint Arena.

Parkinson’s UK is delighted to be the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) official charity partner for 2016, and our staff and volunteers are attending events all across the country, helping to “Target Parkinson’s” by raising £100,000 to help fund vital research to find a cure.

A rainbow of vintage and designer pieces, ‘toxic’ colours and dye recipes are set to be revealed from one of the National Trust’s largest fashion collections. The latest exhibition, Fashion to dye for, has opened its doors to invite people into the wardrobe and discover how colours, dyes and design shaped fashion history. THE world's leading darts players will return to the Westpoint Arena in Exeter for the 2016 Betway Premier League.

The £700,000 Betway Premier League, televised live on Sky Sports, sees an initial ten-player field competing across four months at 16 arena venues to contest for the prestigious title, which was won by Somerset-based Gary Anderson in May 2015.

The opening nine Thursday nights see the players face each other once in the league phase, with the bottom two players from the league table following Judgment Night being eliminated.
