Leading South West building services engineering company EX2 Group has welcomed three new apprentices this week, as they begin their professional training in Electrical Installation with Exeter College.

Christian, Alfie, and Harvey were welcomed to the Exeter offices by James Rayner (right), Project Manager. The apprentices will combine on-site experience with classroom learning as they work towards their Level 3 Electrical Installation qualifications. It’s the third year in a row that the Ottery St Mary garden centre has raised funds for Hospiscare, in what has turned out to be an epic success with the 2021 fundraising total topping £14,700!

This is particularly impressive in yet another year where the pandemic impacted so many charities with postponed or cancelled events.

During the year, efforts included a team from Otter participating in the Hospiscare walk, this year renamed ‘Twilight with a Twist’. The routes were planned by Lauren Pearcy and Sally Bright and 33 walkers completed either 6 or 13 miles. This event...

Topsham local, Paula, is celebrating after being selected as the winner of McCarthy Stone recent photography competition.

Run by the leading manager and developer of retirement communities behind the forthcoming Pym Court Retirement Living Plus development in Topsham, the competition called for local residents to share photographs of their favourite scenery, wildlife, and landscapes from all corners of the town.

Launch of Devon’s £9.3m Community Renewal Fund programme

Team Devon partners are embarking on the UK’s largest Community Renewal Fund programme.

Devon County Council’s successful bid on behalf of the Team Devon partnership to the Community Renewal Fund was announced by the Government in late November, with the £9.3 million funding allocation the largest in the UK for a single area.

The investment will support 13 innovative projects over the next six months, including a range of employment and training, environmental and community investment across Devon through to mid-2022.

Tesco brings £300k New Year cheer for Devon community groups

Tesco is bringing a positive start to Devon communities’ year by launching a campaign to give good causes part of a £300,000 boost.

From 17 January to 6 February, Devon listeners to Heart and Smooth radio stations who work with charities or not-for-profit organisations will be encouraged to apply for a £5,000 cash grant.

Priority will be given to projects that provide food and support to young people, such as school breakfast clubs, food banks, or charities supporting young people to manage mental health.

A recent survey of the South West tech sector commissioned by Tech South West revealed that over half of tech companies in the region are finding it impossible or very difficult to recruit.
